Chapter Three

Amelia stirred in her sleep as light poured in through her window. Sitting up a smile graced her lips as she took in the sleeping form of Andrew, who was curled up in a nearby chair. How had she been so blessed?

Carefully she swung her legs to the side of the bed so she could stand. On wobbly legs Amelia grabbed a blanket and covered Andrew. Stopping she couldn’t help but stare at his handsome face. His lips were stuck in a pout, brows furrowed as he dreamed.

Andrew was aware of the beautiful girl staring at him in his sleep but made no move to show her that he was awake.

“Thank you Andrew.” She whispered leaning forward she softly left a kiss on his cheek. Amelia could already feel herself becoming attached to the kind boy. She couldn’t let feelings form between them because one day Andrew would return home and meet another girl, one that could be with him.

Frowning Amelia made her way back to her bed, she could only be friends with Andrew. Leaning back on her pillows her gaze slipped back to Andrew’s sleeping form.

“You know some people find it creepy when people watch them sleep, but I am oddly flattered.” Andrew said without opening his eyes causing Amelia to blush.

“I t-though you were asleep!” Amelia squeaked embarrassed. Andrew chuckled opening his eyes to look at the girl that changed his life without knowing it.

“Its fine you have permission to watch me sleep anytime..... I mean I guess that’s what I did last night.” He admitted sheepishly, grinning at Amelia, whose blush deepened.

“Um.. do you want to watch a movie?” Amelia asked grabbing the remote off the side table, attempting to avoid further embarrassment. Flipping on the TV Amelia gasped as her picture appeared.

“If you haven’t heard of Amelia Sanders then pay close attention. Amelia is your average teen, except for the fact that she has cancer. Facing death the teen posted a video on youtube talking about the fact that even though she is afraid she doesn’t want to be remembered as the girl with cancer. The nation stood by waiting in anticipation to see the results of her surgery. A new video released on youtube shows Amelia bright and happy with her newfound friend Andrew Dunder, a boy that shaved his head in support of the teen. Just like the rest of the nation we wish you good luck Amelia.” The news anchor said before the channel switched onto the next programming.

“Look at that you’re famous!” Andrew laughed smiling brightly at the stunned girl.

“The video was just a way for me to vent.. I never expected this to happen.” Amelia said rubbing her temples as her pain medication started to wear off.

“Are you okay? Headache?” Andrew asked standing next to her, rubbing her back soothingly.Nodding her head Amelia directed a small smile his way.

“Thanks.” She said a yawn escaping her, making her scrunch her nose.

“Why don’t you take a nap, while I go get the nurse.” Andrew said helping her nestle back into her covers, tucking her in. Nodding her head Amelia closed her eyes and succumbed to the darkness.

Jacksonville, Florida [Amber Summers]

Amber Summers eyes bulged as her best friends face appeared on her TV. Amber hadn’t heard from Amelia since Christmas break. Tears welled in her eyes as she thought about the fact that sweet Amelia had been facing a brain tumour without her. Early last year Amber’s parents had decided to move to Jacksonville so her Mom could get a better job.
