After yesterday and how emotionally draining it was, Laslow didn't get much sleep. It's hard to sleep in a creaky old apartment anyways. Loud roommates in both sides and nobody to keep him company and reassure him he was okay over the night, it was no shocker that he didn't rest at all. But who needs sleep in this day and age, yeah? Laslow sucked it uo and downed a triple shot of espresso from Starbucks on the way to school and drank practically a whole pitcher of tea. Sure, he had to pee three times before leaving the house, but it was worth it to make him feel ready for whatever today had to offer. So Laslow as walking to his first class for the actual school day when suddenly...
"Lazzy! Hey look!"
Laslow turned around and his jaw practically dropped to the floor. There was Charlotte smiling her sweet innocent smile. She wore her school unformed modestly, just like he said. Her skirt extended almost to her ankles like a gown and she was wearing a bow the same color as the skirt. There was a pin in the bow that was a Nohrian pride pin. Her neckline was completely covered up and she wore a bracelet on her wrist. She happily ran over to Laslow, grabbing his arm. She grinned up at him. Laslow won't lie, she was adorable. He was blushing a little bit. Wow. Who knew how much she could change overnight?
"I followed your advice on the outfit! So? How is it? Am I cute?"
She asked, still innocent as her act. It looks like she only took half of his advice so far. She let go of his arm and did a little spin around, holding her skirt up to reveal that she was wearing stylish Mary Jane shoes and short white socks with little purple bows on them. One bow per sock at the front on the ankle. It was adorable. Laslow was at a loss for words. He was impressed. He was proud. He felt like he accomplished something. Laslow grinned a toothy, confident grin and gave her a big compliment.
"Yes, naturally. So adorable I could pick you up and take you out on a date right now."
Charlotte squealed playfully as Laslow rushed up to her and picked now her up bridal style. Everyone in the hallway was watching the two of them now. Charlotte looked really happy for a second, proud of herself. Laslow saw out of the corner of his eye that Lillie was standing there smiling at him. She was with a few of her friends. Laslow sent her a wink and her face went bright red. Ha ha, adorable. As he spun Charlotte around he also caught sight of Effie and Elise. Effie was so probably acting like a bodyguard for her again. She could be protective of Elise. Elise noticed and waved cheerfully before skipping along, dragging Effie with her by the wrist. Girls just seem to be really cute today. It made him wonder if Xander would also seem extra cute today too. That can be found out at the host club after school.
"Lazzy Lazzy! Put me down! Please!"
Laslow followed her orders, placing her gently on the ground. She spun around again, showing off her long skirt. She seemed to really like it. Charlotte looked around to see that she had quite the crowd around her. Her face lit up like a thousand fireflies. Laslow stood next to her, proud like an older brother as his younger sister blossoms into a lovely young woman. Attention. She wants attention and money. Laslow's opinion on Charlotte is changing. Maybe she is just misguided? Who knows what her home life is like. She turned to him, still grinning.
"Hey Lazzy, I'll see you at the host club later, okay? Bye~"
Like that, she skipped along, basking in the attention of the crowd. Two boys with smirks approached her and she's took both of their arms, happily smiling and letting the two escort her to class. Laslow chcukled. Heh. Old habits die hard. He then turned to see Lillie till there with some of her other friends. Lillie looked like she was going to approach him but her other friends dragged her off, cited by something else. Laslow shrugged and turned to walk over to his next class. Laslow was halfway there by now, the classroom he is assigned for first period just down the corridor. That's when he is stopped by a familiar face.
"Yo, what's with the show?! Are we not good enough for you anymore that you ditch us for Charlotte!?"
Laslow turned around to see the tsundere redhead Selena standing there with her hands on her hips and a pout on her lips. Laslow rolled his eyes.
"Selena, you know you can drop the act, yeah?"
Selena let out a deep breath. She dropped her pride and closed her eyes as she took in a deep breath to replace the one she let out. When she opened her eyes Laslow could see hurt. Pain. Selena was frowning and she was hugging herself insecurely. Something was definitely wrong. This isn't the same girl he grew up with back home. Something was definitely wrong. And if he knows Selena, it had something to do with either a boy or with her mother.
"Selena? What's wrong?"
Selena sniffled and wiped her eyes before any tears could escape. She walked close to Laslow, placing her head in his chest. Laslow knows what this means. She was homesick and needed comfort. Laslow hugged her, holding Selena close to him. He wondered what could have caused her to get this way again, there's always a reason. Selena sniffled again and Laslow scoped to See If they were causing a scene. Good. They weren't. The crowd was all gone and the hallways were the opposite of crowded. Maybe five or six people were in sight right now.
"I had a nightmare. You and Odin left me for good. Odin went to college to become the author he always dreamed to be and you became a Dance Instructor. I flunked. I tried to go home but Mama disowned me. I couldn't see her ever again. Restsining order. Then I tried to talk to Papa and he... he... struck me... Laslow, please... don't... don't let me flunk out..."
Selena buried her face in his chest, sobbing silently. Laslow just stroked her long red hair confortingly. He glanced a at clock in the hall. He had three minutes before school started. He was lucky he and Selena had the same homeroom or the two of them would be screwed over something major. Laslow decided to take a risky move. He pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head.
"Don't worry, Selena. I promise I will make sure you lead the life you want to lead. College or not, I promise you everyone back home will be proud of you."
Selena just sobbed again. She was always worried about not being smart. She wasn't and she knew it. But her mother was perfect. She was put under those same impossible expectations. Laslow had to protect her from these expectations. He and Odin love Selena. Just like Selena loves them. They're family. They've been family. They always will be family. And ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind. Laslow pressed another kiss to the top of her head and pulled her Off of him. Laslow learned from Xander yesterday and wiped Selena's eyes with his thumb, caressing her cheek. Her eyes were a little red, but surely nobody would notice. Not in homeroom which is about to start.
"Now, we don't want to to be late for class do we? Come on, Selena. Let's get you there so you can fight with Jakob."
Selena laughed darkly and held onto Laslow's arm as if she was dizzy. Laslow didn't question it. Right now, he was the emotionally strong one and he was getting one of his best friends to class. Nothing off about that.

I hope a second chapter would make up for the quality of both. I'm not a good author, I'm sorry. But I'm trying my best to roll with the idea. I'm trying to show how different Laslow cats around everyone. Like, he is emotionally strong around everyone else except Xander, which his knees go weak for. I wanted to go in depth about that.
I really hope you are enjoying this. Feedback is very much welcome. I would LOVE some feedback. Love you guys!
