Haylee's first day of high school wasn't really a big deal. At least, that's what she thought. Her mom had other ideas. That's why she was standing in the yard, sun blinding her eyes, while her mother snapped 20 pictures of her. "Can we please go now? I really don't wanna be late." She said picking up her backpack.
"Wait! Braden get in there too!" He rolled his eyes and stood next to Haylee, putting his arm around her. This made butterflies flutter in her stomach. Of course she had a crush on Braden. How could she not? But no matter how she felt, all they had was a friendship, even though she desperately wanted it to be more.
"Come on lets go!" He said, snapping her out of her thoughts. He grabbed her and and pulled her to his car, opening the passenger side for her, before walking around and opening his own. They buckled up and then were headed on their way to high school.

The day went by relatively fast. She made a few quick friendships with the people in her classes, and made a couple of enemies too. At the end of the day, Haylee went to her locker to put away her books. Standing there was the only person that didn't like her, Alyssa. 'You've got to be kidding me' she thought to herself. "What do you want?" She said, glaring at Alyssa. She gave Haylee a one-over before speaking.
"That little boyfriend of yours, Braden. He's cute, and he deserves someone better than the little rat you are. Someone actually pretty and worth someone's time like me. Stay away from him. Got it? Or I'll make your life so bad, you'll be begging for someone to kill you. Toodles." She said and walked away, shooting Haylee a look as Braden walked up.
"Who was that?" Braden asked. Haylee thought about it a second before deciding not to waste his time with her problems.
"No one, it was nothing." He looked at her a second before replying.
"It didn't look like nothing. She gave you some nasty looks and you looked pretty shaken."
"We'll talk about it when we get home. But for now can we please just leave?" He nodded and they walked out.

Haylee was lying on Braden's bed staring at the ceiling while he sat at the desk working on a summer assignment that should've been turned in today.
"What did she say?" He said suddenly. Catching her by surprise.
"What?"
"You know, the girl who you said was no one. The one who gave you evil looks." He said, only slightly glancing up from his paper.
"Alyssa. She said that I should stay away from you because I wasn't worth your time and you deserved someone better like her. She also called me a rat." Haylee said, shrugging nonchalantly.
" I'll kill her." Braden said, without a trace of joking on his face.
"Braden, you can't-" she started to say but she was cut off by him.
"I can and I will. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially not you."
"I can't bail you out of jail! And what do you mean 'especially not you'?" He sighed, finally looking up from his paper.
"I just mean that what she said isn't true, your worth every bit of my time. And you know I'm not actually gonna kill anyone. I don't have the guts to do that." Haylee didn't really know what he meant, but whatever it was, she decided it was a good thing.
