Chapter Song : I Think He Knows by Taylor Swift
The next day, Hermione woke up to the sounds of movement.
She scratched her eyes, then opened them to reveal her roommates, who were bustling around, getting ready for the day.
Hermione did a few stretches and then got out of bed. As usual, Hermione did her daily routine, however, today, her roommates weren't ignoring her as they usually did, instead they were staring at her as she got ready, probably wondering how she made Viktor Krum ask her to the ball yesterday.
Hermione smiled slightly as she recalled a memory about her roommates. Her roommates had bonded over the years, however, they did not include Hermione as she was always busy, either reading a book or doing her workload of homework so they tended to ignore their odd roommate while the four of them went to parties and hung out. However, Hermione didn't mind being left out as she always believed that school was more important than socialising.
As always, Hermione was the first to finish getting ready and headed out the door leading to the spiral stone staircase. As she went down, she accidentally bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't see you". Hermione said.
"It's ok. Said a new but familiar voice.
Hermione turned her head to see the girl she had bumped into. She was a very pretty and petite girl with long fiery red hair. It was Hermione's good friend, Ginny Weasley.
Ginny was Ron Weasley's little sister. She was also the youngest of seven siblings and they lived in a house called the Burrow. Hermione had stayed over during the summer as she wanted to watch the annual 1994 Quidditch World Cup. She and Ginny even shared a tent their so their friendship had strengthened.
"Hi Ginny". Hermione said in greeting.
"Hey Hermione." Ginny said in reply. "Want to go to breakfast. I'm heading to the Great Hall now".
"Sure". Hermione said and the two girls climbed down the remainder of the stone steps.
"So, how was last night"? Ginny asked.
"It was amazing." Hermione said as she recalled the memory of her and Krum dancing at the ball. Just then, another memory from last night also returned.
It was the memory of her and Ron's argument last night. She and Ron had a blow because Ron had claimed that Hermione was patronising the enemy as her date to the ball was Viktor. She also recalled that a few days ago, Ron asked her to the ball, but it was a last resort and Hermione was deeply hurt. Finally, Hermione confessed that Viktor did ask her to the ball but did not tell them his identity.
"Hermione, are you all right "? Ginny asked as they got out through the portrait of the Fat Lady, the guardian of the entrance of the Gryffindor Common Room.
"Oh yes ! Yes I am." Hermione replied. "I was just thinking about Ron, how he was so rude last night, how it was suppose to be a perfect night for me but he ruined it. Why is Ron always like this"
"Oh, Ron is only acting that way because he is jealous". Ginny said.
"Jealous ? How can he be jealous." Hermione asked. "After all, it was him who wanted Viktor's autograph".
"Ron acts like that all the time." Ginny said. "Being the youngest of six brothers, he has a lot of expectations to fulfil. He is also the one that lives in Harry's shadow you know".
"Of course !" Hermione said enthusiastically. "Ron had gotten jealous of Harry because he was chosen to be a champion even if he was underage and that was too much for Ron, is that the reason why he is always like that "?
"Precisely "! Ginny said.
The girls soon reached the great hall which had been returned to its original splendour. The rooftop now once again gives them the view of the sky outside. Hermione knew that it was enchanted as she had read about it in her history book, Hogwarts : A History. The two girls soon reached the Gryffindor table at the far side of the hall. The girls took their seats on the benches beside the table.
As Hermione sat down, she noticed, on the far end of the hall, her secret crush Draco Malfoy.
As usual, Draco was surrounded by his usual gang which included Pansy Parkinson, one of the people Hermione hated the most. Besides her, Crabbe and Goyle were also there along with Blaise Zabini and Theo Nott.
Hermione tried to hide her smile as she watched as Draco laughed to whatever horrible things the other guys said.
Hermione never her confessed her feeling to anyone, not even Ginny who was like a sister to Hermione. She obviously did not tell Harry or Ron as they would hate her as well. She also remembered the first time her feelings had blossomed, it was during the sorting ceremony when she saw the handsome pale pointed face smile as he was sorted into Slytherin, from then on Hermione had never let go of her feelings as she hoped that Draco would one day like her. But as the years passed, Hermione decided to just give up, as there would never be a day where Draco would admit his feelings to her. But still, she kept a secret hope in her heart that one day he would like her.
"Hermione, are you all right"? Ginny asked. There was a sound of concern in her voice.
"Yes, I'm fine". Hermione replied as she continued to look at Draco.
Just then, Hermione saw Harry and Ron seat themselves at the table a few feet away from them. As always, Harry's hair was a mess as he had inherited it from his deceased father James Potter who was killed by Lord Voldemort. Harry's mother, Lily Potter, had sacrificed her life for Harry, which allowed the killing curse that was meant for Harry rebound on Voldemort himself which resulted into him disappearing for almost 13 years.
However, Hermione's attention was on Draco. But as soon as Draco saw her staring at him, she blushed and turned away. After she looked away, Draco blushed too. They were both blushing and at the same time thinking the thought of when they are going to confess their feelings to one another.
"Hermione!!!", screamed Ginny.
"Ginny! Please don't scare me again!"
"Why are you staring at Draco!", she asked suspiciously.
"No I was not", replied Hermione, as she tried to stop herself from blushing. "What are we going to do next, anyway its a Sunday?"
"I don' t know", answered Ginny.
"Let's go to the library", Hermione suggested.
"Sure, let's go", Ginny replied.
As soon as finishing their breakfast, the girls rushed towards the library. However, Hermione seemed to not be able to concentrate on reading her favourite book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Hermione tried to clear her head but couldn't as she can't stop thinking about Draco and hoping that one day, he would eventually like her.
