I glance at my watch; there's only five minutes left of class. In these five minutes, I need to try to find Clair. I pack my bag and raise my hand. Mr. Robertson gives me a strange look and smirks at me, but in a friendly way.
"Looks like you can't shut up can you?" he asks. The whole class laughs, including me.
"Can I go to the loo?" I ask.
"What? Is your bladder really that weak?" Mr. Robertson smiles.
"Yes sir," I say while rolling me eyes.
"Can't you wait...what..." Sir looks at his watch.
"Five minutes?" the know-it-all in our class finishes.
"You couldn't wait a single second for your marks back, so I wouldn't be talking!' I snap back. The class makes an 'oooo' sound.
"Jo, that's not nice," Mr. Robertson says.
Mr. Robertson always called me 'Jo' for some weird reason, and spells the boy way but with no 'e'.
"No, but she's right," Mr. Robertson says to the know-it-all. The entire class laughs. Sir turns back to me.
"Yep, okay. Take your bag with you, then."
I walk out the classroom, smiling at Sir as I leave. He smiles back.
"Bye Jo," he says.
"Bye sir," I call back.
I decide to go straight to the girl's bathroom, because I know that the girl's bathroom is a place for Clair to think, as she has done many times. I open the door to the toilets and go inside. I can hear sobbing and voices.
Clair? Jonathan?
I walk to the sound of the voices and feel disappointed. I find some other girl sobbing into her arms, while a creep named Samuel is giving her a hug, whispering something in her ear. I don't particularly feel comfortable with Samuel being in the girls toilets, and I really don't feel confortable with him giving the girl sweet talk.
"Samuel!" I exclaim. "What are you doing here?"
Samuel glances at me and goes back to sweet talking the sobbing girl.
"Emma, it's okay. Don't worry about it."
And with that, Samuel grabs hold of Emma's hand and glares at me.
"What are you doing here? Disturbing our romance?"
"Get out of the girl's toilets!" I yell. "You don't need to be here!"
Samuel sticks his tongue out at me.
"Emma, don't listen to him!" I exclaim. "He's a creep and a liar! He's bullying Clair Patrick! Soon he'll be bullying you!"
Samuel stands up and walks over to me. His face is so close to mine, I can feel his breath.
"Today will be a new day for Clair," he says. "She will start living a life much happier than the one she is living now."
"No she won't!" I snap back. I can feel the tears coming to my eyes.
"And when the time comes," Samuel says. "You will have no evidence against me."
"S-samuel."
Samuel turns around and sits next to Emma. He continues hugging her and also continues to sweet-talk her. The bell rings, so I storm out of the bathroom and see Joanne with Michael. I walk over to them and notice that they seem upset but in a way, relieved. They notice me, so they walk over to me.
"We've told Mrs. Franklin about the situation, and the Police will be coming soon," Michael says.
"Good," I reply. "I haven't seen Clair."
"That's what Jonathan told me," Joanne says.
"Oh, he was looking?" Michael asks.
"Yep, he got a detention," Joanne says sulkily. "Stupid Ms. Pestel."
"Do you think we should look for Clair?" I ask.
Joanne shakes her head. "There's no point. If you and Jonathan can't find her, then who can?"
The three of us walk over to where we usually sit at munch breaks, and find no one else there. We sit down and don't bother eating because we are too full of anxiety to eat. And that's when we hear the lockdown bell blare through the school...
