I cried in my room for a whole day after my screaming match with Rooben. All the shit he was saying. It just... It... It did something to my heart. Broke it a little more. All the words and lies he was shouting just made me even more confused.
But you know, today is Friday and I've got to focus on something else. Someone else. It's the party tonight so I need to just... breathe. Focus on me. Focus on July. Focus on the party and Wes and tonight and just.... Not him. And I can do it. Just for the day. Forgot all about him.
A grab my cell from the kitchen counter and text July to get the driver to come and collect me so I can get ready for the party tonight.
I arrive at July's and she opens the front door with a smile.
"Hey girlie!" July says, wearing her fave silk robe and a glass of what I guess is Rosé in her hand. "I've got the perfect outfit for you!"
I smile because the only fancy dress I have at home is from my Holy Communion when I was two so I'm grateful that I have a wealthy best friend with a great sense of style. I walk through the door and walk quickly up to her room. Her bed is full of makeup and dresses and jewellery and wow! I have to admit that I am a little excited to get dressed up and have a good time.
After a few hours of contour and straightening my unruly hair, I put on the short red lace dress, even though I clearly said I wouldn't wear a shirt dress tonight, and I pop in hoop earrings because you know, the bigger the hoop, the stronger the earlobe. July and I decided that she would do downstairs and I would wait for around forty minutes so the party would be full blown popping when I make my grand entrance.
I can hear the music through the floorboards as I sit on July's queen size bed and tap my heels against the bottom of the bed. I look at my Nokia at it has been forty minutes since July started letting people into her mansion so I think it's time for me to go downstairs. I walk over to her full body mirror and look at myself. Wowee. I'm a stunner. My straightened hair makes my forehead look almost alien like; like a model and my short dress shows that I am a bad bad naughty girl and I think it hides my virginity well. I take a deep breathe. Inhale. Exhale. I can do this. I can. I can do this.
I walk out of July's bedroom and walk towards the banister and walk down. Step by step. Heel on stair. Heel on stair. Until I am down and I see a bunch of people looking at me. Not just looking; staring. The boys, they look....happy? No, not happy, they look pleased with my appearance! Which has never happened to me before. I smile at a few people as I walk past to the kitchen and come face to face with July who looks gorgeous! She's wearing leather hot pants and a crop top and gold chain. It's hooker-chic and she looks fabulous.
"You good?" I whisper in July's ear and gives me a huge smile.
"Yeah I'm good. You look phenomenal and I'm not the only one who thinks so!!" July replies in a singsong tone as she turns to Wesley who is walking towards us. I blush.
"Hey El, how you doing? You look fucking gorgeous by the way." Wes says and I blush at the nickname. Not as good as my little Victoria sponge cake but....
"Hey Wes, you don't look so bad yourself" I flirt back and he takes my hand and we walk out the kitchen. I turn and smile broadly at July and she gives me a big thumbs up.
We walk into a slightly quieter room with only a few people and we sit on the sofa.
"Wes, I... I never knew you.... you know, thought I was gorg- I mean I never thought you liked m-" I stutter over my words as I try to get the words out of my head.
He leans in close, very close, and whispers in my ear as he plays with a piece of my hair, "you're the hottest girl in school... you know that right. You're fucking hot as fuck!"
