I woke up this Monday morning, too early for anyone to wake up really. I was starting my new school, again. This is my fourth school I've been to. I was starting Greyson high today, I'm 16 and starting my junior year. This is the first day of the school year, which I prefer to start now instead of the middle of the school year anyways. There's just one problem I have with new schools.
Finding friends.
Which sounds easy right? It's not. Moving to a new town that's several hours away from where you're from, you have to start over.
Finally I got up after laying in bed for 15 minutes overthinking about how today could go wrong. I realized that nothing would change how today was going to go, I decided maybe I should just keep my head down. I got a tour of the school a few weeks ago when one of the counselors heard I was moving here.
I stripped out of my pajamas and decided on my outfit. I looked through my closet and found a pair of skinny jeans, a white t-shirt, and beige cardigan. I pulled my hair back and put on some light makeup. I finished my mascara and put some lipstick on. I rubbed my lips together.
I took my long brown hair down, I had dyed it over the summer and it was an ombré that faded into blonde. I decided on curling it today, with some loose curls.
Finally, I checked my phone and realized, I should've left five minutes ago. I slipped on some black converse, grabbed my phone, and my bag, before walking outside, where my father was waiting for me in the car.
"Sorry it took me so long dad." I apologized and put on my seatbelt.
"It's okay, you look amazing today," He smiled at me. "But don't let any little boys say that." He chuckled.
"Oh hush it dad, no one will even talk to me." I laughed, slightly worried it would be true.
"Julie are you ready for preschool?" I looked at my little sister sitting in the back seat. We adopted her when she was an infant, and her parents requested for no contact.
"Yeah!" She smiled. "Look sissy, I got my pack pack!" She held up her backpack with a big smile.
"I see, look I've got mine too!" I held mine up. "We match!" She seemed to like that.
"Alright we're here sweetie." My dad pulled over to let me out. "Let me know if you need anything." I nodded and stepped out.
"Bye dad, bye Julie!" I shut the door and saw Julie waving bye. I smiled and turned to walk towards the school door.
Then I froze.
Everyone was staring at me.
Well almost. A few people were too tied up in their phones to recognize that I was there. I ignored everyone and walked in. I went to the cafeteria and found and empty table before sitting down and pulling out my phone.
Thankfully nobody walked up to me yet, so I just played on my phone till the bell rang. I shoved my phone in my pocket and went to my first class, which was geometry.
We had a seating chart and the desks were in groups of four. I found my seat in the corner of the classroom and the other three people sitting next to me were Alexa, Andrew, and Alexander.
Alexa walked in first and sat down at the desk across from mine. She had short brown hair and some simple clothes, but they matched her perfectly.
"Are you Ayda?" She asked me and I nodded. "Did you go here last year?"
"No, this is my first year in this town." I gave a nervous smile as Alexander sat down.
"Hey Alex!" Alexa said and stood up to hug him.
"Hey, who's this?" He asked and looked at me.
"I'm Ayda." I said and gave a small smile. A minute or so later Andrew walked in.
Alex and Andrew were complete opposites, Alex wore beige shorts, and a plain t-shirt. His hair reminded me of Jensen Ackles and he had an outgoing personality.
Andrew, however, wore a baggy white hoodie with some dark jeans. His hair was a light brown and combed over to the side. He sat down without saying anything.
"Oh Ayda, this is Andrew. He doesn't talk much." Alexa told me.
"All of our names start with an a? Weird." I said and Alex chuckled.
"I could've introduced myself or she could've seen it on the board." Andrew spoke and shook his head slightly. Alexa and Alex sat down.
"So Ayda," Alex started, "where are you from?" He finished the question and turned towards me.
"Oh you know, here, there, and everywhere." I joked. "My last school was in Texas, but we decided to move to Michigan a few months ago."
"You move around a lot?" Alexa asked and I nodded.
"I think we'll be here for good though. There's a college here and I'm really interested in it." I explained.
Just then the bell rang and we all looked at the teacher.
"Hey guys my name is Mr. Weston and I'll be your geometry teacher this year." He picked up his roll sheet and started to do attendance. He called all of our names and set the paper down. He leaned against his desk and began to explain our activity for today, mainly a get to know each other game.
"I'll give each of you a note card and you write down one fact about yourself. Afterwards I'll collect them and read them out loud." He began passing out notecards. "Do not put your name on this, it's anonymous so nobody will know which yours is."
I wrote down something pretty basic, I wrote down that I was nervous about today. After about five minutes Weston collected the notes and began reading them.
"I love cereal"
"I'm probably going to fail this class."
"I have 6 dogs and 4 cats." Geez who needs that many pets?
He finished reading them and sat down. He told us to talk to each other and picked up one note out of the basket.
"Ayda? Can you come here please?" Mr. Weston called my name and I stood up.
"Yes sir?" I said and looked down at the note he was holding.
"I think you should read this one. I didn't read it out loud. Since I know first days are stressful and didn't want to call attention to you." He handed me the note and I thanked him before going back to my seat.
"I think Ayda is really pretty and hope to get to know her better."
Did I just read that right?
There's no way. I read it over and over again.
"What's that?" Alexa asked and took the note out of my hand.
"Oooh Aydas got a secret admirer." I blushed slightly.
"They'll probably never talk to me." She handed the note back and we kept talking till the bell rang.
We all four exchanged phone numbers with each other. Then went on with our day. I put the note in the back of my phone.
As for the rest of my classes? I had at least one of the other three in my classes. Except one class I had Alexa and Alex, and another I had Alex and Andrew.
The rest of the day went smoothly. I found my classes easily and after school I met my dad in the parking lot.
We had some small talk on the way home, and asked me how my day was. I didn't mention the note, and by the end of the day Alex and Andrew had seen it too.
After I got home I ate dinner, and I took a shower. I laid down on my bed and checked my phone.
