Inspired by Daddy Issues by The Neighborhood
————I woke up in a cold sweat, the memories I've tried time and time again to forget rush into me through waves. The memories of the day it all ended, when he left, the years of brutal abuse, the day my mother died, the day he died, the horror that was the first 17 years of my life, all coming up to the beginning of my memory. With tears in my eyes, I stood and went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.
My hands were now being warmed by the mug in my grip, the smooth smell filling my nose. I sat at the table and looked out of the window into the night sky, using the stars and connecting the dots. My body felt cold but I was sweating bullets and honestly the tea didn't help. Drinking tea, though, has always been soothing to me. I sat and continued to let out the occasional sob, tears flowing so freely like water down a waterfall.
The white noise was cut by the sound of footsteps coming from down the hall. I look up to see a half asleep Sebastian coming to sit at the table with me. "Why are you up so late, love?" I sighed slightly and responded in a small voice. "Bad dream." He nodded. We sat in silence for a few seconds. "May I ask what about?" I looked down and closed my eyes. "My... my dads birthday was yesterday." He gave me a sympathetic look and placed his hand on my cheek, turning my face toward him. "I'm sorry, sweetheart." He took my cup and placed it on the table. More tears ran down my face as he pulled me to his chest, running his fingers through my hair and whispering softly in my ear. "Why did he have to do everything he did?!" I sobbed. Sebastian squeezed me tighter. "Because the devil walks among the humans, sometimes in the form of one." He kissed my head. "Go ahead and cry, baby girl. It helps, I know." "I just know the fucked up things he did to me and to my mom. I know the absolute hell he caused and how he just fucking walked away, acting like he was the fucking victim!" Sebastian pulled away and looked at me. "But he's gone now, baby. The man is six feet under." He pressed his forehead to mine. "He can't hurt you anymore." He wiped my cheeks to rid them of tears and kissed me softly. I latched back onto him as he continued to hold me. "I love you, darling. And there is no way in hell I will ever let anything hurt you again." "I love you too, Sebastian." I whispered and hugged him tighter. "I love you too." He kissed my forehead. "Let's go back to bed, baby." He picked me up and carried us back to our bedroom. We laid there, soaking in the moonlight, my small figure wrapped in his strong arms. My breathing eased and my eyes drooped until I finally fell asleep, the last sensation I feel being Sebastian's voice softly in my ears. " I love you babygirl. And I will always protect you."546 words
