The Residence

When Jackie got in,she put on a happy face. Before long she was approached by Caroline.

"Mommy, why were you in hospital?". Caroline was only six but Jackie knew she would have to eventually face the heavy burden of telling her daughter.

Jackie took her hand and led Caroline into her room. She bent down to her height to tell her. "Now, not a word of this to John or to your father" Jackie warned her and Caroline promised.

"Well when I was at Camp David, all those blood came out of me and..." Jackie wiped a year away from her cheek. Caroline could see she was upset. "Mommy, sit down"; Caroline guided her to a chair.

"Well, I was taken to hospital and it turns out that...". Jackie stayed strong. "Baby Kick, she would have had a twin". The second those words flew off her tongue, she dissolved into tears.

Caroline sat in shock for a few minutes before finally giving in to the tears that were building up inside her.

Jackie's bedroom

Jackie spent most of the day sitting in her bedroom, as did Caroline. She didn't want the American people to see her in the terrible state, she was currently in. She couldn't sleep, eat or talk about anything without crying. She was on the edge of madness.

Eventually Jack came in from the Oval. "Was that Caroline crying?" Jack asked taking off his tie. Jackie wiped away another tear. "Yes".

"Well... why?" Jack asked joining her on the bed.

"Well she asked why I was in hospital and I told her about the baby" Jackie waited to see how Jack would react to hearing of his 'little buttons' knowing. Jack nodded.

"Thank you Jackie. She needed to know". Jack was happy that she told her! To Jackie that was an extreme surprise. Jack looked at her lovingly before leaning in to kiss her.
