~ Amelia ~
Maybe if it were any other day I would actually get out of bed a little bit happy, but today I felt like I could lay in my bed forever.
Graduation, the day that every other student is happy that schools over, but not me. Don't get me wrong I'm ecstatic that schools over, but after today it'll be summer.
Let me clear that up for you, my last summer as a teenager, and I have to spend it here... in Henwood. I've lived in Henwood my whole life, I've never even left Henwood. The farthest I've ever been from home is when I went on a Ben and Jerry run for a movie marathon I was having with my best friend Jamie. My mother is very protective, I believe that's because she's afraid I might leave like my father did.
My parents got divorced when I was six which left me alone with my mother. When my dad left he left behind everything, not only Henwood and my mother, but me too.
He didn't even say goodbye, not even a wave, he just packed his stuff and left without a word.I had to help my mother get through it, I had to be there for her, so I had to learn to be strong so I could help my mother be strong herself. I was her rock and she was mine, we kept each other steady so we could stand on our own two feet.
"Amelia! Get up you're going to be late for your Graduation!" my mother yelled from downstairs.
I groaned and rolled over in my bed so that now I was facing the ceiling. I grabbed my pillow from under my head and covered my head with it and yelled, "No, I refuse. I would rather have the worst seats at a Why Don't We concert then go to school today!"
"That's saying a lot, but we both know that's not true."
I burst up out of bed so fast I fell on the floor. "Jamie?! Don't scare me like that!!" I yelled and threw the pillow that fell with me on the floor. It hit him and he watched it fall to the floor with a laugh and sat next to me at the foot of my bed.
Jamie, my favorite person in the whole entire world (aka my partner in crime/ my best friend, my only friend). I met Jamie my freshman year of high school, he was the new kid and he moved to Henwood from New York, and I was chosen to show him around the school. During that school tour we both got locked in the old art room that no body used anymore, and me being me I didn't know that. Let's just say we were locked in the room together for a solid three hours, and let me tell you, those were the best three hours of my life. We became inseparable that day, and we still are now.
"I got you something," he said as he pulled a small rectangular box out of his jacket pocket.
"Jamie..."
"It's your graduation present," he said placing the box in my hands, "you can keep it on one condition."
"And what's that?" I asked as he placed his hands on top of mine so I wouldn't try to peek at what was inside.
"You have to go to graduation today."
"Okay, I will."
"Promise?" He said looking me in the eyes.
"Okay okay, I promise." I said with a small laugh looking into his eyes.
"Okay," he said with a smile releasing his hands from mine, I opened the box not listening to what he said next, "I had to make you promise, because I know you, you'd probably- ."
"Jamie..." in the box lay two plane tickets to LA.
"This is our last summer together and I knew you didn't want to spend it here, so I wanted to make this summer special." I was so happy in that one moment that I forgot how to speak.
"Do you like it?" Jamie asked from beside me. I could tell he was worried because he started to play with his fingers.
"I love it," I said and placed my hands on top of his to stop him worrying.
"Oh, thank god. Because if you didn't -," I cut him off with a tight hug, wrapping my arms around him. It took him by surprise, but he quickly recovered and wrapped his arms around me.
"Thank you," I whispered, and then it hit me and I pulled away, "Wait, when do we leave?"
"Tomorrow?" He answered rubbing his neck nervously, "and don't worry I already asked your mom if it was okay and she was okay with it." I hugged him again tighter this time. God I love this boy.
"Amelia we got to go! Are you ready yet?" My mother yelled from downstairs.
As ready as I'll ever be.
