Fire.. It always seemed to sooth me in desperate times, something about just staring into a fireplace always felt comforting. The smell was strong yet it put me at ease, the crackling put me in a trance as I watched the flames dance wildly. As much as the flame was a reminder of content, but it was also destructive...The world bursting into flames and setting into nuclear chaos reminded me of that. It was funny in a way, something that gave me so much comfort had caused so much destruction.
I gazed into the flames some more before I snapped back into reality once the door to my quarters opened. I looked back to see Ms.Venable, her auburn hair in her usual updo posture was proper as usual, dispite her leaning a bit on her cane. "You're late for dinner, Miss Oakley I'm sure you remember I had stated that tardiness was not excusable these days." She said with a plain tone. She was the one who was in charge of this Outpost, and chances are I had been so dazed that I didn't notice dinner was ready.
I got up and dusted off my long, violet, victorian style dress. "I'm sorry Ma'am, I didn't mean to cause a delay." I said softly before she began walking down the hallway "Then don't do it again."
I followed her to the dining room where everyone was sitting. There were 7 people wearing purple at the table myself included, meaning they payed to be here or they had special genetics. And there were plenty of greys, the workers. Ms Venable and Ms Mead wore black. They claimed they were on a higher level, working with the Cooperative who had started this outpost project.
I walked into the dinning room with my eyes averted from everyone else "..I'm sorry to make you all wait." I said before sitting down. Not wanting to cause trouble, yet someone complained. "Heather we're all starving! And you have the nerve-" "Coco that's enough." Said Ms.Mead, she was a shorter woman with short, black hair, shaved on the sides. She was a bit mysterious, but she seemed decent from the few times I had spoken to her so far. I flashed her a subtle smile for telling Coco off before staring down at my plate.

After dinner I had headed up to the library, I started to spend most of my free time there. I grabbed the first thing I saw and sat down in a corner somewhere. I started reading but I could get myself to focus for very long.
It was strange, I didn't remember anything from the past 4 and a half years. Nothing at all since I was 17 years old, and as far as I know I am 20 years old now. It was just a blur, and it scared me a bit, I didnt have any family to tell me about it anymore either. My parents had passed in a car crash when I was 14. My aunt had taken care of me but had passed shortly after, she got sick when I was 18. Something must have happened but I couldn't say what.
I suddendly flinched at the feeling of someone tapping on my shoulder, "Hey sorry, Heather! didn't mean to scare ya." Said Mr.Gallant, looking at me as if he was tebding to a child after a nightmare. I shook my head "O-oh no it's okay, I was just in my head for a bit..." I said with a small smile. Gallant smiled back before sitting down on the floor across from me. "..Look I know this is none of my business, but you do that a lot, and no offence but, you look dead." He paused for a second and looked me in the eye. He wasn't the first person to tell me that, Coco herself had asked me about it the first month of being here, saying that I looked like a baby deer in headlights. "Are you okay?" He continued. I scoffed softly to his question "Nobody here is okay, the world ended.." I said with a shrugged. I hated talking about my problems. Out first he didn't know how to respond, I knew he was stuborn and spoke his thoughts until his point was made clear. All I could do was look at him, wishing that he would go away. I wanted him to just take my word for it and go. I expected him to pry but he suprised me as he stood up "Forget it, sorry for asking, Garcia." And with that he left. A strange feeling went through my body as I watched him leave, I could only discribe it as a surge of energy.
Truth was I dazed out a lot, asking myself questions that I didn't know the awnser to. I wasn't sure if I would ever know the awnsers, its not like I can remember. I just know one thing:
I can remember a person. I don't know what they look like, or how they sound. I just know there was a person.
