6. Being sick has its benefits.
She wasn't sure what it was but it was this whiff of some sweet smell, sort of fruity in a way with hints of strawberry? No. Mangoes? Flowers. It had to be flowers because whatever it was, it smelled like heaven, it smelled like something familiar, it smelled like home. She rubs her eyes and turned a little. That was a good sleep. She thought to herself after a long hard yawn. Her eyelids were heavy but she forced them open anyway. The late morning sunlight was already peeking its way through the curtains, shining light on her face, beckoning her to start the day. What she saw when her eyes finally focused was a beautiful sight. Definitely what she was looking for. Definitely what was giving out that sweet smell that woke her up.
It was Maiyan, still asleep beside her, her face just inches away. Her hair was all messy, stray strands covering her face. Long, archly curved eyelashes adorned her eyes, which were still closed. Her brows were exquisite, a bit scarce and faint in its natural state without any makeup, just resting above her eyes like precious art forms. A fallen eyelash rests on the bridge of her nose, which was high and pointed, but still petite and feminine. Under it was a mole, just sitting there above her right lip. The Moneymaker. Nanase chuckled to herself. Indeed her wife was astonishingly beautiful. Ever since they got married, the one thing Nanase was ultimately the most thankful for was the mornings in which she wakes up with Maiyan by her side. It was the biggest change to be honest, imagine 20+ years of your life being used to waking up alone but suddenly this big change happens and from that day onwards, you'll wake up with the same lovely person for the rest of your lives.
For the rest of your lives.
The sudden change of mood in her thoughts made her sit up, looking away from the sleeping woman beside her. This has been her routine for the past few days. Melancholy and grief seem to haunt her merry thoughts. Displeasing her, annoying her. Plaguing her with this constant weight of an impending reality she's trying to escape. Sitting on the edge of the bed she sighs, her beautiful morning yet again thwarted by her own straying thoughts. Finally on her feet and walking out of the bedroom, she quietly closes the door behind her and busies herself with breakfast.
Breakfast was the usual small talk and trivial chatter, mixed in with a bit of Nana spilling something here and there and Maiyan in her usual self laughing it off, saving the scolding and the nags, ignoring Nanase's disapproval. For one thing in terms of raising a child, Nanase has always deemed herself the "better" parent as Maiyan in various cases was too "chill" and lax at her disciplinary skills often making everything a game or a joke. Not that Nana is a problem child or anything, but still, good and meticulous parenting is needed to insure that the child doesn't become spoiled. Her monologue of righteous parenting gets interrupted when Nana, with a high voice exclaimed "I'm done! Thank you for the meal!". "Yes! Thank you for eating!" Maiyan replied back enthusiastically while patting Nana on the back as the little one removes herself from the dining table, swiftly sitting herself in front of the television. "She watches too much television these days." Nanase commented in a soft tone. "She's smart! I think she even understands the adult programs sometimes" Maiyan quipped in a light tone. Nanase rolled her eyes and took a sip of juice from her glass. Nana is just too perfect in Maiyan's eyes sometimes, she just adores the little girl too much.
