There was a street. It was dark; a gas light flickering only every fifty feet. Haunting houses lined each side of the filthy street, with narrow, stygian alleyways between each one. Every collapsing house, not excluding a single one, had their reddened shutters bolted and chained shut as if some ancient, midnight prowler lurked the sewage-filled streets after dark.

He could definitely pass a one; his inky cloak pooling behind him; his ebon hair brightening in the dim moonlight. From toe to top this man, this otherworldly man, shone with a dark light, a frigid glow coming from his blackened heart.
An echo sounded down the sloping walkway, accompanied by a flap of solemn wings and a caw that resonated in the hollow bones of the haunted. A fitting pair for a night as dark as eternity.
With an earth-shattering boom, the demon of death opened wings as calignous as night, wings only an angel should have. In unison with the demon, the raven opened wings as bright as the demon's were aphotic. A union to shatter worlds, a union to rebuild them, a union to rattle the stars. As a pair, their dissimilar wings beat down and up and they were away, lost on a wind of their own making
