To Pitty's mom.

I still don't understand why Pitty is so determined in picking up everything that lands on the surface. There has to be a reason why humans throw rubbish in the sea.

He hasn't been himself since his mother died.

How did she die?

She was found asphyxiated with a plastic bag around her head near the valley.

That is impossible, bags are harmless, they would never hurt anyone even if they tried. We have one at home that my grandfather caught decades ago and it still looks new. I hope it stays like that for years to come, I love playing with it.

We also have a plastic bag but my father doesn't really like it. He says humans are to blame for everything that is happening (global warming, acid rains, pollution...) Every night he goes to bed feeling happy about being a fish and not a human.

Don't listen to him, my father thinks the same but they are old fashioned.

Well, I don't know what to think. Sometimes I think he is right. I even think I should be helping Pitty instead of swimming around watching him do all the work.

But what does Pitty do exactly?

Humans call it recycling, but they don't do it very often. It consists in separating all the rubbish depending on the material they are made from and converting it in to something new. But I am not sure if it truly Works like that.

That sounds silly, it can't be useful. Who is going to want something used when it is so simple to buy something new? And then they say sea animals have a small brain!

That is the problem, everybody thinks like that so very little actually recycle. They just throw rubbish anywhere and go and buy new things.

But, ¿Doesn't Pitty get tired? He can take days just to carry a cotton bud like that one from where humans chuck it to the safe zone.

The safe zone? How do you know that's where Pitty takes everything?

Well, I must admit I have done a little research on how recycling works and have changed my mind about humans. I think our parents are right.

You surprise me more and more every day. Itlooks like under that thick shark skin there is a heart. Pitty doesn't careabout spending his days recycling. He knows his specie is one of the slowest inour world but he works hard so sea creatures have a better life and speciallyto honour his mother. The day she died asphyxiated she was recycling in thevalley. That is the reason why he turns yellow every time he recycles. It is away of keeping her memory alive and remembering all the hard work she didrecycling to keep us all alive.
