Cara
I LET OUT A LOW GROAN of discomfort as I tried to get up.
On opening my eyes, the first thing I saw was a wide grey ceiling with an eye-catching crystal chandelier in the middle of it.
My first thought was; when did we put in a chandelier? Then realization hit me like a bus going at a hundred miles an hour. This wasn't my room. This was not even my house.
'Oh God, what have I done? ' was my next thought.
Using my hands I lifted myself to sit up. The bed was large and the bedding were soft. Had I not been in such a panic, I would have stayed inside a little bit.
The room I was in was absolutely spectacular, items of luxury filling. This was definitely not my room.
Perhaps if I go back to sleep, when I open my eyes I will be back at home.
I did just that. It did not work.
Then all the memories of the previous night came flooding back. From the letter to the woods to the wolves, all of it was pouring back. I tried to remember all the details of what happened before I woke up.
The last thing I remembered was staring at the moon that was oddly red as the darkness closed in, enveloping all of my surroundings.
Shouldn't I have been in the woods if that was where I last was?
Thousands of questions went through my head at a hundred miles an hour.
I jumped out of bed my feet meeting the soft white shag carpet. Looking down at my feet, I found something else. I was in a large black shirt.
Oh God.
Where were my clothes?
I began coming up with various scenarios as to what happened the previous night, none of which did anything to come me down. All of them meant that I was in some peadophile's layer.
Calm down, maybe an old lady -who happens to have a large man's shirt- rescued you from the wood.
The shirt smelled oddly nice. The scent was intoxicating.
I could not just stand there and keep smelling the stranger's shirt . I had to do something and fast.
Instinctively, I began searching the room for possible exits and escapes. I spotted three doors and the French doors leading to the terrace.
Running to the door at the corner of the room I found that it was a closet. A damn closet.
The second was lavish bathroom, but there no time to admire the lufas and soaps, I had to find an escape. The third door was probably the exit but it occurred to me that my kidnapper may be waiting on the other side and I doubt my martial arts skills polished enough.
I chose the only other option. It was either that or God-knows-what lay on the other side of that door. The terrace.
Pushing open the French doors that led to the terrace, I racked my brain on away to jump off the terrace and somehow survive without breaking all two hundred six of my bones.
To make matter worse, the room was three floor up AND the only thing around for miles was trees. All hope was lost. I was screwed.
I went back inside and re-explores my few options. Maybe the door. Maybe I could pass through the -hopefully empty- hall without being noticed. But a house like this was likely to have servants and maids. Servants and maids who would spot me and take me to their master.
Don't be so pessimistic now. Let's do this.
My plan had to work.
I staightened up and pulled down the shirt as far as it could go. It shirt covered more that half of my hips. For once my short stature comes in hand.
It's go time.
'Go time' never came because just as I reached out for the knob the door, it flew open hitting me on the forehead. It hurt more than it should have. I fell to the carpeted floor.
A woman peeked inside. She ran to me and speedily helped me up.
In her hand she held a bunch of clothes.
"I am so sorry," she spoke smiling at me. It was a comforting smile but her eyes held a different emotion. None like what her smile was telling me.
I had no idea. I was not going to dwell on that. Not when I had no idea where I was.
"Who are you?" Was my first question.
"I am Merideth. I'm a doctor and I have also brought you a towel and some clothes. You can get changed out of that. "
"When can I leave?"
"Not yet. How is your head?"
"Huh..." I touched my head. That was when I remembered that I had hit my head the night before plus when Merideth hit me with door.
"It hurts a little but only when I touch it,"I reported. Good thing I had a strong skull.
"Good. Take a seat on the bed I need to do a small check up," she was very insistent so I did as she said and sat at the edge of the large queen-sized bed.
She carried out a small test.
"Looks like you're fine. The little scratch has done a good job healing. We may not have to keep you overnight," I could tell she was joking. Maybe humor was not her strong suit.
Touching the left side of my forehead I felt something. It was a scar. But I couldn't be so bad. I could cover it up with my hair...like Harry Potter. Watch out Voldermort.
"Are you the one who rescued me?" I blurted out as she finished up her small examination of me. It have really relieved my stress had she said it was her. But she didn't.
"No."
"Then who did? " she pursed her lips as if thinking of something to tell me.
"It was a man named Jasper who found you in the woods but it was Mr. Vasiliev who brought you here,"
"Vasiliev?" I asked. The name was hard to pronounce.
"I know. Weird name. It's Russian or something... His name is Ivan but as far as I know, only one person calls him that, Jasper."
"The one who found me?"
"Yes."
"So this is his shirt?" I just had to ask. I wanted to at least know the owner of the shirt I was wearing. Plus whoever's this shirt was, it smelled incredible.
"No. It's Mr.Vasiliev's." I simply nodded.
"The bathroom is over there," she said pointing her manicured finger nails to the door in the other side of the room. "When you are done dress up," she patted the navy blue dress on the bed. " Let me give you some space."
Before she left, I had to ask one last question. She was almost out the door when I shouted, "Merideth! Where am I exactly?"
"Vasiliev property." That was all she said before she disappeared out the door.
I just wished she had told me more than Vasiliev property.
