"Why are you home so late?" My mother asked the second I got in the door.
I looked at the clock: 11:38.
"I called Dalia's mom asking if you were okay. You know what she said? She said that she hasn't seen you since last weekend. I couldn't even get a hold of you."
"Mom, I'm sorry."
"Sorry? Sorry is just a word to keep me from talking," she hissed. "What were you doing?"
"I was at six flags with a friend."
"A boy?" She asked, contradicting me.
"No," I went upstairs to my bedroom. I closed the door and hopped on my bed. Why does she have to be so annoying?!
"It was a boy," I heard my mom tell Mia. Oh my God.Mila's POV
I snuck in through the back, downstairs window. I couldn't shake how beautiful Lydia was. I mean her hair- brown, with waves, and her eyes- they were gorgeous! They were pale blue with brown near the center.
"Mila?" A voice came from the kitchen.
"Max?" I whispered. "Why are you awake?"
"I was waiting for you! Mom and Dad were getting worried."
"Well, I'm here now," I was slowly inching to the stairs. All the lights were off, so it was hard to get up the stairs. After tripping on one of the steps, my mom emerged from her bedroom.
"Where have you been?!" She yelled. "With your boyfriend?!"
"No, I was at Six Flags with a new friend."
Mom shook her head. "You made me and your dad worried sick!"
"I'm sorry, but I-"
"No! You are so disrespectful towards people who have more power than you."
"All you care about is how people see you!"
My mom lunged at me and hit my face. "Mila! You are so disrespectful- you'll never satisfy me or your father!"
I teared up. I wanted to say "that's what she said" but I was too angry. I stormed off and slammed my bedroom door. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and texted Lydia.
Me: ugh. We probably shoulda kept track of time lmao
Lydia: yeah... my mom was pretty pissed.
Me: same!! She was like "was it your boyfriend?" Like I told you that we broke up!!
Lydia: I'm so sick of parents.
Me: I have to tell you something...
Lydia: go for it
Me: I think I like you. Like "like like".
Lydia: you know who you're texting right?
Me: yeah- Just please do not tell anyone I can't let this secret go to school.
Lydia: I can't believe you like me?! Like... wow
Me: I'm so sorry if that weirded you out. :(
Lydia: no!! I... uh... I'm actually gay and you made me realize. XD
Me: <3
I was so happy, but I didn't know how my mom would react.
