Christopher's POV
Oh she's really done it this time. I think it's time to lock her up.
'What should we do?' I whisper.
My sister looks at me and shrugs.
'I don't know, tase her?' she whispers back.
'That'll only motivate her more.'
Abigail - my sister that is - looks horrified at that remark.
'Well, we gotta do something.'
I look around the corner again, and make a decision.
'Alright, I'm going in.'
'No! Don't sacrifice yourself!' Abi's eyes are spread wide open.
'It's fine, I'll make it out, I hope. Wish me luck.'
I sneak into the kitchen, careful not to get caught, keeping the tiny radio in sight. Suddenly, a hand grabs my hand and spins me around. I can see my sister's shocked facial expression for a split second, and then all I can see is her. A wide mouthed grin, eyes sparkling furiously and red cheeks. My mom.
'Chris! Sing with me!'
Oh dear God no, please no. My mother is the worst singer I've ever encountered, and she knows it. She barely ever sings, I think I've heard it three times in my life now. I wonder what crap she's pulled. She only sings when she is extremely happy with herself. I switch of the little radio quickly and my mother stops singing. I can hear a relieved sigh from my sister.
'So, mother, why all the joy?' I ask, fearing the answer.
'You'll see.'
Great, now I'm terrified.

I toss my bag in the corner and wash my hands. Working at a supermarket in the meat-section is... downright gross. My hands smell awful.
'Hi honey!'
I freeze in my tracks. My mother has never, not once in her entire life, called someone honey, especially not me. Did she invite another guest? Maybe it's Matt. I breathe out, relieved. Yeah, it's probably Matt. No one else is crazy enough to come here, but he's been over here five times this week already, so it should be him. But even when he is around my mom doesn't call me honey. Maybe he told her something so great that she's ecstatic. I wait and listen. No singing. I wonder what is going on. But first, I'll be taking a shower because with this smell I'm not ready to figure it out just yet. I walk upstairs and get the water running. I take of my clothes and step in, enjoying the heat. I still wonder what is going on downstairs.
Stepping out of the shower with a towel wrapped around my waist I walk to my room. I open my door and almost let out a scream. There, sitting on my bed, reading a book is Matt. He looks up and his eyes widen in surprise, and within a second his cheeks are a deep red color. He turns away from me.
'I am so sorry! I had no idea, I just climbed through the window to drop something of!'
I have no words. If there is one person I didn't want to see my body, it was Matt. I mean, come on, that guy is super fit and athletic. And here I am with my skinny, wonky body with my bones practically protruding. I close my eyes and sigh and quickly put on some clean clothes.
'Are you... proper?' The last word comes out hesitantly. I sigh.
'Yeah.'
Matt turns towards me, still bright red.
'I'm sorry, that's...' he makes the sign of the cross and turns his head upwards, his eyes closed and lips moving soundlessly.
'It's okay, you couldn't have known.'
'I shouldn't have come through your window.'
Right, he came through my window to drop something of. But wait, if he came through my window, why is my mother so happy?
'What did you come to drop of?'
He hands me a book.
'I saw you have the movie adaptation, but the book wasn't in your bookcase and I thought you maybe wanted to read the book as well.'
I look at the cover. 'The Great Gatsby,' it says. I love that movie. Love the book even more. The reason it isn't in my bookcase is because is lend it to Abigail, but he couldn't have known. What a thoughtful gesture. Is this what its like to have friends?
I send Matt a smile.
'Thank you. But why did you come through the window?'
He smiles.
'I like your parents and all but I don't have a lot of time, and well, when I visit your mother always talks to me for about an hour, which is great! Really, it is, but I am kind of in a rush, I'm going out for dinner with my parents so I had to make this a quick visit. I knew you were working 'til five so I thought I'd stop by.'
I cannot believe him. Did he actually mean that? He doesn't mind when my mom talks to him for an hour? Unbelievable. Also, he knows where and when I work? I mean I told him, but I thought he'd forgotten immediately.
'Well, er, thanks and enjoy dinner?'
Matt smiles and waves before climbing out my window again. I sit down on my bed and stare at the book in hands for about five minutes before I remember that I still need to figure out why my mom is so happy.
I walk downstairs, slowly, and enter the living room. I cannot believe what I'm seeing. How did my mother do that?
The head of dark hair on our couch turns around and looks at me with a half-smile.
'Hello Christopher.'
It's Lydia.
