yoongi stood by the door, not knowing if he should be brimming with excitement or shaking with nerves. after the death of his father his anxiety worsened; he hadn't been able to speak outside of hoseok and his own immediate family since childhood but last year— everything was just... worse.

"come on yoongi, you don't want to keep jimin waiting do you~" Hoseok teased, gently nudging yoongis arm.

with a blush and a roll of his eyes yoongi bid his mom goodbye, taking a deep breath as he walked outside. this part of the journey was normal for yoongi- he left his house and walked in the same direction to school every weekday.

It was the bus ride that yoongi was going to struggle with.

buses and yoongi didn't mix well. a tight, compact space filled with judgmental strangers- the thought alone sent shivers down his spine.
that twenty minutes of public transportation would be a nightmare for yoongi. his mom sold the car a while ago and the hospital funded taxis to take him to his appointments.

"maybe we could walk into town instead... i'm sure it wouldn't take too long..?" yoongi mumbled as they reached the bus stop, standing as close as humanly possible to hoseok.

"right, we're not doing that. it's like a forty minute walk- let's not keep jimin waiting for us," hoseok hummed, watching as the bus approached them. "just walk behind me, i'll pay for you— make sure you tell me if you need to get off, alright?"

Yoongi was a little extra thankful for hoseok in that moment- saving him from the embarrassment of shakily handing the driver the small amount of change he had in his pocket and probably getting kicked off for not having enough.

he tried to say thankyou but his throat closed up, not letting the smallest of words escape his mouth.

yoongi momentarily thought of holding hoseoks hand for a source of comfort- but then people would think they were dating and in a conservative country like korea being gay certainly wouldn't attract positive attention.

"hey yoongs, did i ever tell you about that time in first grade me and chan got caught-" hoseok began to witter on, retelling anecdotes he hoped would take yoongis mind off of the the nightmare situation he was in. they sat at the back, yoongi in the window seat and hoseo next to him. for a bus going into town on a saturday it was fairly empty, mostly middle class mothers with toddlers.

yoongi closed his eyes, listening to tuning in and out of hoseoks stories.

"yes tae don't worry, i'll tell you how it goes."

"yes- if he talks i'll tell you what his voice sounds like in the upmost detail."

"no, i can't say that i do care about lesbian exchange student in your math class."

"this has been an amazing conversation but i gotta go- yoongi and hoseok are here."

with that jimin hung up. he loved taehyung- he truly did- but he sure did talk a lot of shit.

"heya guys!" jimin grinned, smile stretching from ear to ear, eyes curved into crescent moons "how are you?"

"we're good~" hoseok hummed. the bus ride had gone down rather smoothly if hoseok said so himself. with yoongis track record with- well human contact, neither of them had expected it to go well. "i'll go buy the drinks- want anything jimin, it's on me" hoseok asked, of course offering to pay as the positive beam of sunshine he was.

a few moments of jimin hurriedly skimming the menu later and hoseok had left to get a hot chocolate for himself, a black coffee for yoongi and a strawberry milkshake for jimin.

silence shrouded the table, yoongi nervously shuffling in his seat as he awaited hoseoks return and jimin trying to think of something to say it do to make yoongi comfortable.

silence.

more silence.

just a littleeeee bit more silence.

"can i tell you a story?"

a question to which yoongi nods at.

"well i have this really close friend called tae—taehyung- he's like obnoxiously loud so you've probably seen him around before. anyway, a few months back we were playing a game of truth of dare and i'm not sure who it was that said it but someone dared him to strip- completely naked, and run up and down the entire street! taehyung being the absolute dumbass he is complied. he leaves the house jogging- completely out of site for a good minute or so before we see him sprinting back, cock and balls flapping in the wind with a policeman following close behind him! to this day i have no idea how he managed to outrun the cops and get home but naked."

i for one wouldn't say yoongi was doubled over in laughter- but it was certainly the most he'd laughed in front of a stranger for a very long time.

maybe he actually was on the road to recovery?
