~Jeremy's POV~
"I still remember how it felt. It's embarrassing to find out, deep down I just want things to be easy." She said to me as I looked into her sparkling eyes. I replied shakily, "Yeah, but... " I looked back at my dad, Michael, and other friends for support. Michael gave me a thumbs up which gave me a sudden happy burst of confidence. I continued more confidently, "who wants things to be hard? Look, I almost destroyed the school, maybe all of human civilization. I know that the last thing I deserve is another shot, but, um-" She cut me off saying, "Just say what's on your mind, Jeremy." I really felt like I had a shot at going out with my crush, Christiiiiineee. I asked her confidently, "Lunch? just the two of us?" And my heart crushed as she said, "No, I think I'd better leave you for someone else. I just don't think the two of us will work out great." I almost started to cry, I had really felt like I had a chance. "I-I'm sorry Jeremy," she said, putting her hand on my shoulder, "I just think there's someone out there who's- who's more meant for *you.*"
"Okay, yeah, I-I understand..." But I didn't understand. "I-I've U-Uhm, I've got t-to go somewhere, I'll um, I'll see ya around, Christine," I said before I practically ran away crying. I ran to the bathroom and into the furthest stall to have a good, hard cry.
"Hey, Jeremy? You in here?" I heard a familiar voice call out to me while I sulked in the stall. "Hey, It's Michael, are you okay?" I couldn't let him know I was in here crying like a baby over some stupid girl. "I saw you run in here after you confe- Oh my god, you're a mess!" Dangit. He found me. "*sniffle* No I'm not," I said turning so he couldn't see my face. "Aw, c'mon Jer. What happened?" He said, softly. The way his voice lightened on "Jer" calmed me down quite a bit. I sighed, "Christine... doesn't think we'd work out well together..." "Oh no! Jeremy, I-I'm so sorry."
Michael engulfed me in a big hug. I didn't want to admit it, but the hug felt soo good. I wish it could have lasted forever. "It's okay Jer. Hey, wanna come over to my place, we could get stoned in my basement!" I couldn't help but smile back when I saw the cute, dumb smirk on his face. "You know what, I'll actually take you up on that offer this time." I loved the way his face brightened up when I finally accepted.
~In Michael's basement~
The smell of pot filled the room. "Duuuude, if you cut off your leg, would it hurt?" Michael asked. "WHAT? Of course, it would!" I replied to his stupid question. "But where would it hurt?" He cheekily asked me. "Uhhh, in your leg...?" I answered. "But how would it hurt in your leg..." He started, "If your leg is cut off!" I joined him realizing where the conversation was going. "Man, I love you," I told him. "Man, me too," he replied. "You love yourself too, or you love me?" I asked. "Oh shut up, you know what I meant," he said, throwing a pillow at my face. "Hehehe, which is?" I said, just really wanting him to say those words. "Dude, I love you."
"Oh yeah, prove it!" I said, the pot really starting to get to my brain. "Alright, I will!" He stated, defiantly. Michael quickly, probably without thinking, grabbed my collar and pulled me close. "Is this proof enough, Jer?" He said before he grabbed the back of my head and kissed me hard on the lips. It was a good ten seconds probably before he let out of the kiss. He really got into it and it made my face go way hot. He must have only realized what he did after he did it, because he then whispered half to himself, "Woah, did I really just do that?" I just stared at him dumbfoundedly, no doubt with a stupid face. "Heh, must have been pretty good, I've left you speechless." He said, somewhat proudly as he looked at my embarrassed face and rubbed his fingers through his hair.
I didn't know what to do with myself so while he was looking off all proud of himself, I grabbed his head and pulled him back into a kiss. I didn't know what I was doing at this point, or why exactly I was doing it, but I was committed. I held the kiss strong for 20 seconds and let go of him. For a couple seconds neither of us knew what to do, so we did nothing but stare at each other. Then the fact of what I just did hit me in a wave as my face burned red-hot. "S-s-sorry!" I yelled for some reason. I tried to look for emotion in Michael's eyes, a hint at what he could be thinking, but I saw nothing. "M-m-maybe we s-shouldn't get high in my basement anymore, heh heh." He finally said, his face turning pretty red. "Y-yeah... maybe we shouldn't" I responded.
"Uhm, we could forget this ever happened?" Michael said, the nervousness blatantly showing through. "Y-yeah, l-let's do that." I agreed. "Hey, wanna go over to your house and play some video games?" Michael asked to change the subject. "Yeah, I'd like that," I replied. So we headed over to my house and left that whole situation there.
~At Jeremy's house~
The familiar sounds of our favorite game turning on helped me to calm down that last bit that I needed to after... whatever just happened... Michael already seemed to be back in the swing of things, but that kiss really shocked me. I tried to shake it off as I got into gamer-mode-position. I could feel it, today was the day, we were finally going to beat level nine: The Cafetorium of Apocalypse of the Damned. We selected two players and got sucked right into the game.
"Man, it's going to be nice going back to a normal life haha," I said to lighten the tension a bit as we focused on getting to the end of the level. "Haha, yeah I bet it is. What was it like not being able to control your own actions?" He replied. "Wow, it was crazy. *gasp* watch out." I said, a zombie popping up from around the corner on Michael's side of the screen. "Woah! Take that zombie! Phew, that guy almost got me!" He said in response to the enemy. "Yeah dude, it was like, I was screaming on the inside to make my limbs go one way, but they just weren't doing what I wanted. It sorta hurt, to be honest." I continued, with the threat being gone. "Crazy. Heh, I'm gonna be glad that you aren't being told to hate me all the time. Heh heh..." He said. "Oh, yeah... I'm so sorry about that man. Really. The squip is way too good at convincing me that I sucked and that the only way for me to stop sucking was to get you out of my life," I apologized.
"Now that I think about it, that doesn't make any sense at all haha," I added. "What do you mean by that?" He asked. The screen flashed "Game Over," but it didn't matter too much, we were getting to the really important stuff. Maybe that was why we kept losing at this game, we just can't stop distracting ourselves with talking to each other. Well, my life really sucks *without* you in it. Heh heh," I clarified. "you know, you *really* are my favorite person, haha." Michael seemed to start to blush. "Aww, Jer..." Michael replied, "I-You're my favorite person too. No, really. I couldn't handle myself without you." He was starting to get really sentimental, which was not very like him. "Don't ever leave me again like that, haha!" He chimed back in with his normal state of sarcasm, "I'm not gonna let you go away ever again." He finished, with a light punch to my arm. "Yeah, alright, I won't," I reassured him. "Good. Now let's get back to this level," he said, turning back to the screen.
~Time jump one hour later~
"Dude! I think I see the finish, it's right there!" I said, pointing at the checkered flag that was at the end of a dark, ominous hallway on the screen. "Oh yeah, I think that is!" Michael agreed. As we approached the flag, the camera angle changed and I watched our characters run side by side and celebrate at the end. Butterflies entered my stomach suddenly as I watched the characters that looked very similar to us having a great time in the game. It was probably just butterflies from finishing the level at long last.
"We did it!" Michael exclaimed, extending his hand for a high five. "Yeah, we did! I didn't think it was possible haha," I added, accepting the high five. "Well, it's a two player game so of course we did!" Michael said with a cheesy smile on his face. "Heh, it does feel like we can do anything together, doesn't it..." I trailed off before adding, "which is why I'm so so glad that this whole... *situation* is over now." Micheal laughed at me, "hehe, you're so cheesy, dude." "Well, you started the cheesy-ness," I objected. "Yeah, whatever," Michael finished still cheekily smiling.
~more time jump yay~
"Hey, I'll see you Monday, yeah?" I called after Michael as he left to his PT Cruiser to drive home. "Yep, I'll see ya too, bye!" He answered. I called back, "Bye!" despite him already being in the car. I waved until he was out of sight. Glad that things can settle down and return to normal now.
