A slight trigger warning for this chapter

~Michael's POV~

My mom that was crying, Naomi, started crying harder and loudly whispered, "Damnit, I hate THP! Why do they have to do it like this!" My other mom, Katelyn, quickly hushed her, "shhshshh. Calm down Naomi, what if he hears you?" She told her. "You're right. I just- it's just not fair. He- he doesn't deserve it." Naomi replied. "I know, it's not, and he doesn't. But you and I knew this was bound to happen. We both agreed to sign the waiver."

I walked out of my room and peeked around the corner, seeing Katelyn hold my other mom in her arms. "But how are we supposed to tell him?" Naomi asked through wet sobs. "Well we don't want to freak him out, so not for a bit. But I do think we should tell him before they do." My other mom explained to her. "I don't know, what if something happens before that. He doesn't even have a power! They can't take him! It's not fair!" Naomi sobbed and her tears became heavier. "He'll figure it out soon enough. And if he doesn't, the people leading THP will help him." My mom consoled the weeping mess.

Naomi just continued to bawl her eyes out which made me turn back to my room. I couldn't stand seeing her in that state for any longer. I assumed they were talking about me, but I hoped they weren't. I can't leave here, especially leaving Jeremy would be hard. I mean I could just kill myself tonight, but I don't want Jeremy to be depressed. It sucks to be super depressed. I have to contact Jeremy immediately.

I quickly went back to my room, grabbing my phone as soon as I got in there. But what would I even tell him? I can't tell him about my powers, I don't even know what I'm getting into yet. I thought it would probably be best if I researched what I could first.

I looked up "THP" on google. "The Hero Project.gov" is the first thing that popped up. I read a bit about it. The website was saying what it was about. "Our mission is to make sure that everyone is safe in this dangerous world" it read at the top of the page. It was saying some crap about the world becoming more radiated and stuff like that. Then it mentioned teens with powers, this was where I started to pay more attention to it. It talked about how it took teens in with powers and trained them to make the world a better place. I was starting to become a bit scared, so I went back to the search results to maybe find something with more unbiased information.

On another website, people were discussing THP. The people on there saying things like, "Many people don't know what this is....... Many teens are being sent there..... it is like survival of the fittest." The endless discussion only made me more scared. "Poor teens. There is just no hiding from the government. I had a friend who always acted weird about going to see superhero movies. A couple of days ago they went to what they called a "summer camp that starts early." They are going to miss finals at our school. I was really worried about them and even more so now that I've discovered this discussion. I think they might be one of the victims of THP." One user said. Another commented on that comment, "Yeah, they were definitely taken away by THP." All these comments were saying horrible things. From theories to personal stories, I had to get off the site before I scared myself too much.

I closed the window and stepped back from the computer. I felt like throwing up. What would I tell Jeremy? Maybe the lame summer camp excuse? What about getting an education? I'm only at the end of my sophomore year! My mom was right. This isn't fair.

I jumped when I heard a knock at my bedroom door. I slowly approached the door and opened it to find my moms there. "Hi, Michael!" Katelyn said, pulling me into a great big hug. "H-hi," I said, trying not to let my feelings about what I had just discovered show through. "What are you both doing here, you didn't tell me you'd be coming home today?" I said, trying to sound like I didn't already know they were here. "I know, we had to come home at last notice," Naomi explained. "Why?" I asked, wanting them to tell me about THP. They looked at each other as if to communicate how they would explain it through their eyes. "Well, we just-" Naomi started. "Let's just tell him the truth, Naomi," Katelyn said quietly. "Alright, you say it," Naomi nudged her towards me. "Fine," Katelyn sighed, "Michael. There's something we need to tell you, why don't you sit on your bed." She started. I sat on my bed and waited for the bad news. "There's an organization called THP, The Hero Project, they uhm, well they came to us when you were very young. We hadn't even had you for very long yet. They have a very special gift for finding out when people have powers. Anyways, you know how you've never really gotten hurt very much. Well-"
