Two-thousand years ago.
Ivory watched with itching anticipation as his clawmates flew from Skywing palace. They must have been found, because the red and orange dots of dozens of Skywing soldiers were in pursuit far behind them. They had gained distance, but the speed of Skywings was no laughing mater.
"Three moons on clouded night." Ivory cursed, "Fly you fools." His voice was level but his temper was starting to show.
His clawmates arrived, landing before him with panicked, but loyal, faces looking to him with eager anticipation. There was no point identifying their scales, tribe mattered little to Ivory, he adopted all into his ways.
"Ivory, we got the scroll." The bleeding Skywing spoke with excitement. Blood seeped down her side. Clutched in her claws was the scroll that would prove Ivory correct, it gave him more than enough leverage over the Skywings to enforce a peace stance with the Nightwings.
He took it from her and motioned with his chin. "They're still after us. Fly, you know where to meet. If they catch you remember not to tell them where we hide. Thank you for your services, I won't forget any of you."
They quickly took flight and headed south. Aiming for the Mudwing kingdom. Hoping to loose them over the borders. They were a group of many different colors, it probably didnt help there were two Icewings trying to blend into the night.
Ivory looked at the scroll and began to read it to make sure it was the right one.
It was, one scroll written for Queen Diamond as a Military Alliance deal in the war against the Nightwings.
He enclosed the scroll and held onto it tightly. His contacts informed him of the meetings and he was hoping this would all be a lie. His home was not going to survive a war against two tribes. Not for a ling time at the least.
The Nightwings were fierce but they had little chances for any alliance to help them now.
That was why he left. He had to form a group to end this conflict. All future conflicts. The Wings of Hope had a mission and they would see it through. they had grown larger over the years, but today that could end. He looked back and saw the Skywings gaining on them. "Split up, be safe, have no fear!"
He aimed southwest. Diving low and skimming the trees. He heard several shouts from behind him. Looking back he saw two Skywing soldiers aiming for him, spear tips glistening in the moonlight.
Even my dark scales are not helping me blend in.
Suddenly, two dragons intercepted them. Wrestling the spears from them and giving him time to flee. He flew as hard as he could. This scroll had to be kept safe, it had to get to the other queens, they had to see that this war needed an end. He ground his teeth. This war was nothing but a prestige war. There was no real gain, didn't Prince Arctic leave on his own accord?
He found his thoughts wandering as he beat his wings harder. Flying as fast as he could. He weaved between the mountains. Making his pursuers loose sight of him. Eventually he got away. There was no sight of the soldiers following him, and to his flanks he saw his clawmates slowly making their ways back to him.
They were bleeding, exhausted, they were flying for most of the night as they headed to the southwestern parts of the Claws of the Cloud mountains. That was their meeting spot. He noticed not everyone was here, either they were captured, or they were delayed. He could only hope they were alright. He felt terrible near them, here he was without a blemish, yet they still followed him. What made him a good leader to follow? What did they see in him?
Maybe hope.
They landed safely at the base of the tallest mountain. He looked around and whistled to signal safety.
