Somewhere in the Kingdom of the Sea.
The waves lapped at the shore in their usual rhythm. There was a power and majesty the ocean commanded. If someone didn't head the strength of the water, they could find themselves pulled under the riptide and forced out to sea.
Braveheart couldn't help but contemplate the ocean from the cave he stood in. Behind him, Trident growled at the SeaWing soldier who was patching up her arm where she was stabbed. Thankfully it was superficial, she would live but the wound still needed bandaging and care.
Mother is not going to be happy with us if she finds out, ah of course she will find out. She knows everything.
"I'm impressed with your skill, you fit your namesake." Sergeant Tidepool held a look of respect. She had taken him and Trident to an isolated island for questioning and so they could keep them safe. Something about being close enough to an outpost. "You should be thankful the Wavetaker didn't get you and your... friend."
Braveheart noticed she seemed entrusting of them, if ever slightly. Still, he knew he had to use their cover story. "My siblings died in the war. When I became the last one, Queen Moorhen placed me into a patrol group." He nudged his head towards Trident. "I caught her near our territory, looking for exotic collectibles."
Tidelpool held a claw up to stop him. Her eyes closed as she exhaled. "The war is over, if love somehow found its way between you two then maybe there is hope among us after all."
Behind them, he noticed Trident give him a subtle look. Truth was, he did loose his siblings in the war, he was only three when they were caught in a battle, unprepared. IceWings had attacked from the sky, the unrelenting attackers took many lives. However, he never went home after that. Memories started flooding back against his will.
Flashback
"Get up!" Braveheart screamed. "Get up, you can't leave me!" He pounded his knuckles against his Bigwings. Blood pooling from the neck and her sides.
"Brave," Puddle wheezed, she slowly wrapped a wing around him. "You have to get out of here, the IceWings, they are strong, and they are relentless, they know they are outnumbered and wont hesitate to kill you."
"But they wont, because you'll keep me safe!"
"Braveheart shut up!" He listened to her. She moved her head to look at him. The light was fading from her dark maroon eyes. "Fate isn't a merciful thing. I wish I could keep you safe, but you have to be your own Bigwings now, you have to live for us. Go, go, GO!"
She coughed her words as she shoved him away. Obeying her last order, he ran. Chaos echoed all around him. Overhead a screaming SkyWing chasing after an IceWing. Somewhere to his left he heard the sickening sound as a spear plunged into a dragon, a scream of agony was lost among countless other drones of war. To his right, a MudWing was walking around, blank eyes with an expression that no longer acknowledged reality, holding the decapitated head of their sibling.
He shut his eyes and tried to focus. He had to hide, he was small enough to do just that. He kept running, the forest around him was sparse, and the mountains that ran north and south loomed above him. Wait that was it, a cave! There had to be a cave!
The ground thundered around him as a SkyWing and IceWing collided to the earth. They brawled as he was nearly crushed by them. He tried to hide under a fallen tree as a sickening ripping sound was heard. He looked over and saw the IceWing looming over the newly dead SkyWing. Her white scales covered in red blood. Her chest was heaving, and she looked right at him.
She hissed as she stalked closer. Braveheart felt the knife strapped on his leg. Could he kill her?
"Rrrraagh!" He charged the towering IceWing. Her brows furrowed and she grabbed the SkyWing's spear.
