Chapter 14 - Burning Ashes

Leo lifts up his hand and knocks on the door.

Alice POV
Mr.Russo answers the door by saying "come in". Slowly, I open the door and Leo and I take our first step in his office. I was surprised that he was still awake. Leo looks at me for a slight second and I could see he was scared. In return, I just smiled at him for encouragement but in the inside, I was scared too.

Leo and I went to Mr.Russo's desk. Mr. Russo's room as a whole was massive he had piles of paper scattered everywhere you could barely see the floor. Mr.Russo was typing on his computer. when he looked up t see me and Leo.

Leo was looking at his father when he decided to speak "Father, I want to leave". Mr.Russo looked gobsmacked.

"What did you say, son? You are barely four and want to leave? Get out you are wasting my time". Mr.Russo says as he gets out of shock.

Leo was about to say something when I interrupt him "Sir, I'm leaving tomorrow to be a fighter and I wanted to take Leo, with me", confidence was my key here.

In return, Mr.Russo says "You are that girl Sandro was talking about. You knocked out one strong man. But maid I can't give my son to someone as low life like you. You are nothing and my son is not worth nothing. So, if you are leaving then you may but don't take my son or you will have a death wish".

"But fath-" Leo was interrupted by Mr.Russo.

"Leave and go to bed. You worthless maid I don't want to see you here anymore so leave you have one day to do so" he warns me.

I and Leo leave the office with silence. I couldn't look at Leo. I didn't want to leave him. But now for certain, I have to leave him. We go into my room and let darkness consume us.

I woke up in the morning, with sloppy kisses all around my face. I open my eyes and see Leo kissing my face. I grab ahold of his waist and start tickling him. His laughter was a beautiful melody to my ears. Those cute little laughs I was going to miss.

"So, should we go and get breakwast" Leo says to me.

"Yeah, we can go but before that, we need to get ready for the day ahead" I reply.

Leo and I brush our teeth and take our turns in the toilet. After we finished our morning routine we go downstairs to the kitchen. I start to make waffles and cut out some fruit toppings for the waffles. Leo sits down on a stool and waits for me to finish preparing food. As I am preparing I hear the door of the kitchen open and in comes Alessandro.

Alessandro comes and sits down on the stool and stares at me preparing waffles. This is creeping me out a bit.

"Hey, Maid make me some waffles too, with strawberry and Nutella toppings", in return, I just nod and start preparing waffles for him.

After I finish making breakfast I serve breakfast to Leo and Alessandro. Then I go and sit next to Leo and start eating. 

Leo looks up to me "Lex I want some chocolate syrup can you get some" I just nod back to him. I get up and look through the kitchen cupboards and find no chocolate syrup. I would have to go downstairs in the basement to get new chocolate syrup.

"Leo, there is no chocolate syrup left I will go downstairs to the basement to get you some" Leo gives me a million dollar smile in return.

As I was walking out of the kitchen Alessandro steps out too and leaves the kitchen. I make my way to the basement, where I find the chocolate syrup. But all of a sudden I smell something burning. Automatically, I go outside the basement to see the house is BURNING!

Straight away I go back to the basement as for there is an exit from the basement. But then I remember Leo is all alone upstairs where the fire is. Leo can die.

I neede to make a quick decision it was either exit the basement or risk my life and try to save Leo.

I wanted to leave but I didn't want to live, with regret. So, I did the unthinkable and stepped out of the basement to save Leo. It's not like I have anything to lose.

Up the stairs, I go. The fire was coming out from each direction I had to make sure the fire does not get anywhere around me. All the rooms around me seemed to be melting. I could hear people screaming and I could tell they were getting burnt. But I had no time to save them my only intention was to save Leo.

After avoiding fire and screams that felt like years. I reached my destination the kitchen. I decided to call out Leo's name "Leo! Leo! Le-". I got interrupted by a squeaking noise.

I look around to see, where the squeaking noise came from and it was coming from the pantry. Carefully, trying my best to avoid the fire I reach the pantry and open the door to find Leo sitting in a corner, with his body cramped up.

I go up to him"Leo baby, come here let's get out". Leo look s up to see it's me and runs to me. He didn't say anything. I picked him up and put him close to my chest and stepped out of the pantry.  I start to make my way to the nearest exit. As I get out of the kitchen I could see that the fire had spread and it was really hard to breathe from this smoke. I start coughing and pull Leo closer to my chest to enable him to have fresh air.
