Chapter 15 - Animal Instincts

I start coughing and pull Leo closer to my chest to enable him to have fresh air.

Alice POV
My life was not dear to me as others hold their life to be. The only I have at this very moment is to save Leo. If one of us has to survive it would be Leo. I'm stating a fact because I'm a low life maid.

The walls were burning only patches were left to walk on. The fire had burnt the floors to the extent of there being holes in the floor. I was scared but I had to save Leo. A pattern was formed on the floor it went in a zig-zag motion, with the fire boarding it. The floor that was protected had Nomex overlayed on it. I didn't think twice I ran for my life. Leo was trembling in fear, keeping close to my chest as a protective stance of him not losing me.

I ran and not knowing where I was going but my only aim was to escape. I reached the door to exit and opened it. The feeling of opening those doors was like entering heaven after so much hard work and devotion.

I stepped outside and went looking for everyone. They all stood far north to me. I approached them, with Leo still wrapped around me. Mr. Russo was the first person to spot me. He had a look of relief when he saw his son wrapped around my chest.

"My son, he is alive", Mr.Russo says. He comes to me and takes Leo in his arms.

"Thank you for saving my little brother", a voice known as Alessandro says to me.

Everyone turns their attention on Leo looking for injuries but found none. After, inspecting him Mr.Russo and Alessandro start talking to each other. not caring that I still stood there. For my own curiosity, I look around to see how many people survived this fire. To my surprise, all the staff was present some had minimal injuries that would heal over time.

The only question I had was what caused this fire?

All of the staff me including were asked to go and live in the garden shed, which was really large for an average shed. I even got my own room even though it was really tiny. Everyone was gossiping to why this fire happened all of the theories were hilarious for example someone threw a bomb in the house, wouldn't you hear a BOOM if there was a bomb that exploded.

Knock Knock

Who could be at my door at this time? "Come in", I answer back. The door opens and there stood Mr.Russo.

"May I come in?", Mr.Russo asks politely. I didn't know this man could be polite.

"Yes, sir you may" I reply back. He comes into my room and sits on my bed and pats the place next to him for me to sit on.

"You were selfless and saved my son. I m ever so grateful to you."

"Sir, Leo- I mean Leonardo mean a lot to me and I would a lot to me and I would save his life over and over again" confidence was my weapon right now.

"You love him greatly I see. Well then for saving my son I offer you one thing you want and I will fulfill it. It could be called a wish too", I look him dead in the eye. He was 100% serious. I already knew what my wish.

"My wish as you phrase it is to have Leo leave, with me to my journey in becoming a fighter, if it is accepted.", Mr.Russo looked at me shocked he wasn't expecting me to ask for this. Even though I could wish to leave this place and go to Nonna. But I made up my mind I wasn't leaving Leo to be unloved like I was he deserved love.

There were five minutes of silence Mr.Russo was staring at the floor for the whole time then he looked up to me and said"Take him, with you if you are accepted", without waiting for my answer he leaves the room leaving me in a shocked state.

I was happy that Leo could leave, with me but was sad for Mr.Russo but it wasn't like he ever showered his son, with love. I decide to do the most sensible thing and go and find Leo. I leave my room go downstairs and find Leo. I gesture Leo to come, to me and lead him back to my room.

"Leo, baby you can leave, with me for fighting", after delivering this news Leo starts to jump around the whole room, with a smile on his handsome face. No one would believe this child just survived a tragic accident.

"Yay you and me forewer", Leo says in his cute voice.

"But, baby it's only if Sandro allows me to take you with me. Your father only allowed me to take you with me if Sandro agrees".

"Thenw call him right now!", this child was very demanding.

"Ok, ok wait let me find my phone", I found my phone on my desk. Quickly as possible I dial Sandro's number and call him.

On the third ring, Sandro picks up the phone "Hello, who is this". My body started sweating.

"Hi, Sandro this is Alice, the girl who beat up that man," I tell him.

"I have been waiting for your call not have you thought about our proposition"

"Yes, I have but I will only accept this deal under one condition. Will you accept it?"

"Tell me the deal then I will answer", this man was so eager.

"The condition is that with me a little boy will come and live, with me if I were to participate in fighting"

"So you want to bring extra baggage, with you?", he lets out an evil laugh. I didn't like what he said about Leo.

The reply he gave me shocked me the most.
