I survived the first half of the day, well, almost.
I'm sitting in fourth period next to Jess in History, who is once again tuned out with her headphones in.
The day has been fine so far. I was given a "guide" to help me around my classes for the next few days whilst I settle in. And everyone has been pretty friendly.
I spent my morning break meeting with my new guidance teacher, and organising my joggers that I'd been given so far.
Then it suddenly hit me. My phone. I've not checked it since this morning. He's going to be pissed. I make a mental note to myself that I NEED to phone Liam at lunch.
The bell rings and before I know it Jess is hurrying me along to the "lunch table" in a very busy atrium with kids rushing about in all directions.
We walk over to the far corner next to the back doors leading out to the hockey pitch.
And there I see who's already sitting down. Joey. And the other 4.
She's friends with them!?
Jess finally lets go of my hand and lets me sit down beside her, with one of Joeys very fit friends next to me.
"So Em Im just gonna introduce you to everyone kay." Jess announces
"This is Ty, Jason, Tom and Nathan... Oh and Joey." She adds whilst giving him a wink. But he's too glued on his phone.
Joey hasn't looked up from his phone since I walked over to the table. Too focused on something clearly more important than listening to Jess anyways. He looks different. He's scowling. He looks...tense.
I tilt my head to observe him some more until -
"Are you just going to stare at me the whole fucking time?" He angrily says towards me after slamming his phone face down on the table.
"I, I, I,wasn't staring at yo-"
"Save it. Jess what the fuck are you doing bringing this new kid to sit at the table next to us!?" His face becoming more flushed as rage engulfs his body.
"Shut the fuck up dude." She sternly says to him as she reaches out to grab his hand across the table.
To my surprise he doesn't flinch, and let's Jess interlock fingers with his.
I sat there more confused that what I was. What actually is going on?
"Jess, really it's okay, I can sit somewhere else." I say as I begin to stand.
"Sit. You're not going anywhere." She commands. Knowing that I could not argue back with the command in her voice.
Joey scoffs out loud whilst picking his phone back up and continues from where he was.
"So uh... Emily how come you've moved here?" Tom, who was sitting diagonally across from me asks. With a slightly guilty expression on his face, probably due to the fact his mate just turned psycho on me.
I look towards him with a slight smile, he's also very attractive. He has dark tight curls at the top of his head with glistening green eyes. And a shy smile that didn't look fake. I could tell that there couldn't be an evil bone in his body.
"Well, my dad got this promotion down here so we all had to move kinda last minute. I only found out I was moving last week, I'm from Scotland."
And before Tom could respond, Joey with his eyes still locked on his phone mumbles, "Yeah could tell that from a mile away with that boring accent she has."
Something this time didn't hold me back.
I shot up out of my seat waiting for Joeys eyes to be locked on mine.
"Now listen." I start. "I get it, you want to sound impassive, like you don't give a shit to make yourself look hard. But give it a break jeez. Your friends are also fit and their attitudes seem to be more in check than yours. So please, figure yourself down out."
I sit down, instantly regretting what I just said. I just called them all fit. I mean of course they are but god I've only known them for not even a day!
Everyone's eyes around the table are locked on mine, a couple of boys had their mouths wide open, some were about to burst into fights of laughter, Jess looked so amused with an eyebrow raised, and Joeys face had turned into a slight smirk, looking amused that I probably had a rant in front of my only group of friends here, oh and called them all fit.
I'm guessing no one puts Joey in his place often.
"Well" he begins. "I do like a feisty girl. That's why I like Jess too. So Emily, you can sit with us."
I roll my eyes. "Wow I feel so privileged" I say sarcastically.
Joey is so... confusing. I didn't want to bring up what happened at the lockers earlier on, because I think there must be something going on with him and Jess. The last thing I would want to do is get on the wrong side of her.
I notice Jess giving Joeys hand a quick squeeze before reaching into her bag to fetch her lunch.
With confusion on her face after realising her lunch isn't there, she looks to the left, looks to the right and then-
"Ty you did not YOU FUCKING BASTARD." Jess roars, even causing Joey to look up from his phone.
All eyes turn to the table to look at Ty, who is sitting next to me, he is biting in a Nutella sandwich, which was obviously Jess'.
"Whaa- oh I'm sorry I thought you would let me have half of it for fuck sakes." Ty says as he guiltily puts the sandwich down on the table.
Again, he's fit. What am I doing sitting next to these 5 fit men? Even from sitting at lunch with them for only 15 minutes I can tell they're popular. Girls are looking at them left right and centre. Some don't even care about making it look subtle, I mean there's one standing in the distance staring at Joey with her jaw wide open, to which Joey is oblivious to of course.
"When I'm not on my period, maybe. But right now I need all the fucking food I can get. You fucking psycho." She says with her voice still raised. People at the other tables are beginning to look over.
"Jess. Enough." Joey says sternly, but with a soft tone that doesn't make him sound too intimidating, but enough to make you listen. "I'll go and get you a happy meal. Let's go."
Jess doesn't protest and Joey buying her a happy meal put a huge grin on her face. "I love you I love you I love you." She says as she grabs Joeys hand and begins to walk away from the table. Joey rolls his eyes, looking slightly irritated as he's just realised he's volunteered to take Jess for a McDonald's.
That leaves me with Ty, Tom, Nathan and Jason. Cute.
