He leads me out the front door where there are some people scattered around, eating lunch or huddled in their groups.
We walk past them all and walk up the car park till we get to the top of the road. A country road with only the sheep to keep us company in the fields at either side, or the occasional car that will pass by.
I let go of his hand. Not because I wanted to. I feel safe in his presence. Like I'm undefeatable, no one can hurt me when I'm with him.
I look up at his face as he gulps. His stoic facial expression that's almost permanently attached on to his face gives nothing away as to what he's feeling.
"So um..." he speaks up. "I need to ask you something." He says, with a nervous tone in his voice. He's beginning to fidget with his hands, and the scowl that appears between his brows as if he's thinking on what to say next.
"During your uh...mini rant" he starts "I thought you would've mentioned the lockers. Why didn't you?" His voice low and sincere with his hooded green eyes locked into mine.
"I didn't think you'd want me to."
"I didn't think you'd care." He states.
"Well unlike yourself, I can be nice."
"I can be nice too..." his voice full of sadness. "I'm sorry, Emily. I know you're new and I shouldn't of been a dick to you on your first day. I'm kind of glad Jess asked you to sit at lunch with us. She needs a friend that's a girl."
"Yeah, I was gonna ask, why does she sit with you muppets and not with any girls?" He rolls his eyes and chuckles lightly.
"I mean have you seen her? Believe me the guys have tried to find her some girl friends. The record was 4 days. No girl can keep her for that long, she'll always do something that will result in the girls kicking her out of their group It's like we are the only ones who can keep her under control."
I feel sorry for Jess. It must be hard. But again I can imagine her just saying what's on her mind and probably offending every girl in the entire year.
"She's not a bad person though." He comments.
"I know that, I knew that the first moment I met her. She can probably just be..."
"A handful?" He smirks.
"Exactly." I chuckle. "And you're not too bad yourself."
"You're giving me a compliment?" He amusingly smirks, stopping me on the pavement, with his head tilted looking into my eyes.
I can feel my cheeks beginning to burn. Chill Emily stay chill. I look away, hoping he doesn't notice... but he does. Damn.
"No need to be embarrassed. Hey you did compliment me during your speech at the table too. I know I'm fit." He says. His eyebrows raised and his signature smirk appearing on his lips.
He's so fucking fit.
I bite my lip. "Shut the fuck up" are the only words I manage to get out with a sarcastic smile. Before looking away again to continue walking down the road in the direct sunlight.
No one around.
Just me and him.
