THE CAFETERIA WAS, in almost all aspects, the heart of District Thirteen. It was the beating pulse of life that empowered those that rebelled against the government, and the epicentre of chatter that inspired individuals to do great things- impeccable things for the sake of the collective. It was the veins to the rebellion's body; a vital addition to an already irreplaceable task force.

And it held the remaining Victor's that wanted change in one, vulnerable spot.

Every impactful event that occured in District Thirteen centred around the eating hall. It was something about the thick stained walls that showed the porous nature of the stone under the fluorescent light, and the many people there that always witnessed the moments of Finnick's rather unfortunate situation. The hall acted as a stage for his life's half written play, with real people at the heart of the trauma. It was a theater- albeit a poorly crafted one- from which the whole of the resistance could watch each time the world fell apart around him at a terrifying rate; yet another day that would inspire the rebellions forward at his own personal loss.

That day, he was sitting near the far corner with Lillain seated beside him. For once, there was a smile on the young girl's face. She was chipper as she ate her usual ration of food with Finnick's extras on top, and that seemed to be something that calmed the slightly older man. He had been running around for so long that sitting there with Evelyn, Haymitch, Beetee and Gale was almost something he was looking forward to. There was a part of him that was still uneasy, but all of that energy seemed to stem from the man sitting across from him; not the usual chaotic mind that plagued him.

He could see the bruise on Gale's face from where his fist came in contact with his jaw. The colours that swirled under his rough skin made Finnick slightly proud; he had done that, and he'd successfully stopped Gale from saying anything about Lorna that wasn't right. The coal miner hadn't said sorry; Finnick could see the mild disgust in him whenever the Victor brought up Lorna. Before then, Finnick jadn't realise just how much he talked about the woman from Five until he noticed that Gale's eyes were constantly disgusted.

Those eyes would haunt him, he thought, before he knew that it would be something far worse than a man's eyes that stayed with him that day.

Boggs stalked into the main hall unnoticed until he landed beside Katniss. She'd been talking to Prim silently with her family- unnoticed by all but Finnick who'd taken to watching the girl slowly get accustomed to a life without. Whatever the man said had put her on edge until she couldn't sit anymore. The man caught her eye as she passed; something wasn't right.
