Final Conversation

Brady O'Connor was an absolute rock star, anyone would've told you so. He listened to The Smiths and Queen in freaking eighth grade!! He's such a legend, I know, my best friend would tell me that every day. Every day there was something new that Brady was saying or doing that made Cassie-Anne freak-out. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so obsessed with a boy. I'm not even sure if the One Direction fangirls could surpass her, she liked him that much. I remember the day when it all became too much for me.

"Cassie, you know I love and care for you so much, but something is really bothering me and we just need to talk about it," I said as my hands twitched anxiously.

She hadn't even bothered to look at me as she said: "Uh, what's happening?" I tried speaking after, but Miss Baker's voice blared out suddenly with the information that we needed to remember to bring our items for the food drive this Friday.

I sighed and that's when she looked at me. I'll never forget the look on her, it was like daggers piercing into me as I tried to speak. I had a feeling she knew what I wanted to talk to her about, and I wasn't too excited to tell her. I mean, could ya blame me?

"Look, you're my best friend and I feel the need to tell you that I don't appreciate you only wanting to talk about Brady. I understand that he means a lot to you or whatever, but I mean a lot to you too and I don't deserve to be treated this way." I rambled as I nervously played with the bottom of my sweater.

"I'm sorry that you feel this way, but there's nothing that you can do or say that will make me change," and with those words still hanging in the air, she got up and left Homeroom.

For months after our Final Conversation, I tried to figure out what Cassie and every other girl had seen in him. Yeah, he had good looks, but he didn't have any substance. I know that Cassie loved his "Chocolate Brown" hair and the "Hazel-Green eyes that would transport you directly into a forest". He personally never struck me as the person who could care very much about other people or as someone who wanted a good job with a family. Maybe that's what all the girls saw in him?
