Riiiiiing goes the bell that dismisses me from Art 100, my last class of the day. "Don't forget to look up the Impressionism period for homework! I want two of your favorite pieces and the background of the painter due Tuesday!" I barely hear Miss Coleman say as I leave the Art Room. I'm headed for my locker and I see someone that instantly gives me a feeling of uncertainty. I try to turn away and walk in the other direction until I hear a deafening
"Yo, Athena! Wait up" I sigh and then turn back around.
"Hi, Brady, what do you want?" I say with a fake smile and patience.
Brady, being the guy he is, puts his arm around me and says smoothly "Now, how would you like to come to a party tonight picked up by me, the dashingly handsome boy-next-door?"
I stop and I hear him chuckle which is a slight shock but not more than him asking me to a party. What does he want to do with me?
"Uhh, why?"
"How could you say why? I'll see you at eight," And with that he winks and walks off, leaving me completely speechless and just standing there.
I rushed to my old, rusty red, 1972 VW Beetle after my run-in with Brady and immediately called my older sister. It took about three times and several "Hi, you have reached Olivia, I'll get back to you soon," before I finally got ahold of her.
"Hey, wha-"
"Liv, I'm having a dilemma," I say in my most dramatic voice I can muster
"Uh-oh, what happened?"
"Do ya remember Brady O'Connor? Oh well, I guess that doesn't really matter at this point. Anywho, he asked me to go to a party with him. Me go with him. I don't even know why I mean I was his girlfriend's best friend. And now he wants to take me to a party? I didn't even say yes! I just stood there and he took it as a yes! Like, can they just get any girl they want so they don't even second guess if the girl wants to even go with them, they just assume! Oh how oddly privileged in a sense. Am I the only person who thinks this is weird? Oh, I don't know, he is pretty cute, but why me? Like it's completely bonkers to think about, honestl-" I rambled not knowing what I was saying and not knowing what to do about it.
"Ok, honey, I need you to take a deep breath and to tell me your most prominent emotions right now," Olivia said in a soothing tone. Sometimes she's the mother that I never had, I've never told her that though.
"I'm confused and flustered like he asked me in the middle of the hallway with his arm around my shoulder. I just don't know what to think about it."
"Well, I personally think you should go like it can't possibly be horrible and he was always nice to me whenever I saw him. There's also a chance that he might actually like you, don't rule that out."
"I've hardly talked to the guy and I've known him since Middle School, I can't fathom him liking me. It's just not possible to me,"
There is a pause and all I pick up from her end is just the crackle of nothingness.
I sigh and take a deep breath before saying, "Thanks for helping me Livy, I just didn't know how to tell but I feel better now and I think I'll go. Do you think you can come down and help me choose an outfit?"
"Yes of course love, see you then" I hear mwah and then the beep-beep-beep of the call disconnecting.
I sigh and then lean my head against the headrest thinking how could I possibly have gotten myself into this mess. There's also a chance that he might actually like you.
