We all looked in the book before Callie spoke. "Let's flip to a random page and do whatever it lands on!" She shouted, Robin nodding. I sighed before nodding. Knowing our luck, it's gonna land on the worst game possible. I closed the and reopened it on a random page, reading the title before dropping the book. "You have gotta be kidding me," I muttered, slowly walking away from the book. It had landed on a game called The Candles Game; a game that I already knew about.
And it was a fucking deathwish to play it, even if we now had good luck.
The others were looking at the book, turning around to stare at me, probably wondering why I had that kind of reaction. I sighed before explaining. "The Candles Game is basically a game where someone hides a candles in every room in a house and someone else, who doesn't know the location of each candle, has to go through and light every handle in the house in a certain amount of time. There are more rules to it, but I can explain that later, since only one of us will be going through the house and lighting the candles," I explained the others looking at each other before Cora spoke. "B-But who'll go a-and light all th-the candles, then?" We sat in silence for a bit.
A part of me wanted to, for thrill, ya know? But then there was the part of me that was telling me that I would probably die while doing it. But I don't want any of my other friends to do it, since they'd all probably die in the process. Callie would probably get tired and fall asleep or pass out half-way into the game, Robin would take the whole thing as joke, and Cora would be too scared to even begin the game. I sighed before standing up. "I can do it. I already know the instructions, so that just makes this easier," I told them, trying my best to seem brave and calm. They heard and nodded. It was silent before Cora nervously stood up. "I-I can hide th-the candles, th-then," she stuttered, everyone else nodding once more. Cora looked over at me expectantly. "We need one candle for every room and hallway in this house, which you should know the amount from when we played The Man In The Fields, a timekeeping device, and a lighter," I told her. She nodded, leaving the house, presumably to get all the materials.
I looked at the others and sat down to explain the game, the two of them sitting down as well. "So, you must begin the game during daylight, and you need to turn off all devices in the house other than the timekeeping device, put them in a box, then placed out of sight. Then the player, or in this case, me, will place one unlit candle at the end of every hallway. Then a partner will hide one unlit candle in every room of the house except one. The player can not learn where the candles are through any way other than finding them during the game. Once the partner has hidden all the candles, they must leave the house with instructions to not come back until 6:00 A.M. the next day. Once they leave, the player puts one candle in front of their door before closing all the doors in the house without finding the candles. The player will then set an alarm on their timekeeping device for 11:10 P.M. precisely. Then at sunset, the player must go to sleep. By the time the player has fallen asleep, the player should be the only person in the house. You guys don't need to know anything else, as only the player will be playing from that point on, and I can't play with anyone else, so-"
"Hold on," Robin interrupted. "Are you telling me you have to play this by yourself?" She asked as I nodded, confirming what she said. She instantly ran over to where I had dropped the book, picked it up and began reading. After awhile she sighed and closed the book. "Well, you're right, there..." She said quietly. I nodded, sitting down calmly. "Well, I guess we just have to wait for Cora to bring us what we need, then," I told them, relaxed. "I hope she's bringing a fire extinguisher," Robin said suddenly. "Like, fire hazard much? You're probably gonna catch one of the closets on fire by accident. Hope you don't burn the house down, Hailey!" I chuckled silently. There's the humorous Robin that didn't really show up yesterday due to the game.Either way, I'm honestly shocked how calm I am right now, though. Like, I'm about to perform another ritual but by myself this time. So how the fuck am I calm right now?
