Lance was in the training room, letting out a frustrated sigh, restarting level 10, when Keith came in with a thoughtful look on his face. "What's up, man?" Lance asked, being honest and friendly when nobody else was around, for only Keith knew what he was, BUT that's a story for another time. "I can't figure out the person who's on level 63 on the training room." Keith groaned. Lance laughed, "i'll give you a hint, it's Mace." Lance laughed even harder when realization dawned on Keith's face. "No way!" Keith yelled excitedly, running up to the observation room, calling, "can i see?" Lance shrugged. "Sure, why not." Then turned around and called, "start level 60!", before shifting.

(Lance's wolfix form)

Keith never got tired of watching Lance shift. It was so flowing, like a river flowing, and before he knew it, a wolf with fur as dark as the void and eyes like embers, with matching wings stood in battle position, waiting for Keith to start the training course. Keith pressed a button and could only watch with awe as Lance, or "Mace" in this form destroy all foes in front of him. Keith eventually joined him, it always filled something in his soul when he fought side by side with Mace. It was probably because he was Lance's partner, he had the blade from the B.O.M to prove that much. Apparently he "bonded" with Lance when they bumped together in the Garrison. After that, he knew what Lance was, and what Keith himself was. He was a Gatra, or now called a Galra as they were launched into space. The blades from the B.O.M are the original guardian blades, which is why they react that way. Keith fought smoothly with Mace and even enjoyed it. Soon they transitioned to sparring, and that's when it all went to the purgatory.

Mace grew to the size of a horse and growled playfully, Keith laughing along. Mace launched himself at Keith, but Keith dodged. It went on like this until Mace used his wings and speed ability and pinned Keith. Mace snarled playfully at Keith, their mental bond transferring amusement. That was, until a scream echoed around the room. Mace turned his large head and both his and Keith's eyes widened, seeing the rest of the paladins in horrified shock at the scene before them.

Shiro snapped out of it first and ran at Mace with his hand glowing it's deadly purple. Pidge followed, and Hunk laid cover fire. Keith got up as Mace shrunk and jumped off, looking for cover. "STOP!" Keith screamed, startling the paladins. "B-but Keith." Shiro stammered, "This THING pinned you and was snarling at you!" Keith rolled his eyes and opened his arms as Mace shrank to puppy size and jumped into Keith's arms. "That was just Mace messing around." The paladins were silent, then Hunk broke the silence. "Where's Lance?" Keith smirked, "Lance and Mace don't like each other." Oh boy, and the puppy pout Mace gave Keith with sarcasm dripping heavily through their bond, made it all worth the trouble he knew he was getting later.

Pidge was the first one to come up to Keith and Mace. "W-what is he?" Pidge asked weakly. Keith relaxed and Mace did as well, doing a doggy a smile at Pidge. Pidge smiled back and went to pet Mace's head. Mace leaned into the touch and gave a sort of purr like sound that made Pidge coo. "Awwww." Pidge scratched Mace behind the ears and Keith quickly pulled Mace back before he breathed fire on Pidge. Sadly, one of the training bots is currently a puddle of molten metal. Shiro was still suspicious of Mace, asking, "Are you sure he's safe to have around, Keith?" Keith glared at Shiro and nodded, sending Shiro into a shocked silence.

Keith had never glared at Shiro with such intensity before. It was almost as if he threatened to kill Mace. 'Well,' Shiro thought with a long sigh, 'This is gonna be ruff.' Shiro was the only one to chuckle at his lame inside dad joke.
