Life of a Hybrid

Chapter 7

 I feel like it has been so long since I have been able to stretch my legs and shake out my fur. A lot of times I don't have a lot of time to myself since I am either constantly working or going to school and when I am not doing that I am with my best friends. I get into my car and drive a good thirty minutes through the countryside where the woods are easily accessible. The night is still young and the air feels so good tonight. I park my car and take off my clothes and fold them neatly and placing them in the front seat. I grab the car keys and place them on top of the driver's side tire so that I don't lose them while on my run. I mean where am I going to put them in my mouth (I think not).

I make my way deeper into the forest, feeling the cool earth against my bare feet. I remember when I was first able to transform I absolutely hated stepping on the floor while barefoot. But I guess you just have to get used to it right? I take my time walking deep enough to where I can no longer see my car. I then take a big deep breath and begin to relax my muscles, next thing you know I feel my bones cracking forming into the proper form that I need them to be. A few seconds later and I am Stretching my back and shaking my fur. God this feels so good!

'Long time no see hoe.' I laugh while continuing to stretch my sore body.

"Well, I did promise you we would go out for a run today didn't I?" I take my time to get adjusted to my surroundings the moon looks so beautiful tonight.

'Well are we going to run anytime soon?' man I feel like my wolf has been in a really bad mood, I know I haven't taken any alone time with her in a while but I am still able to tell her to change of moods.

"What's wrong with you lately, why are you acting like a bitch for? You need to be a little more patient, you know that we can't just start running as though we have no worries in the world. Remember we are not in our pack territory so we do have to worry about the possibility that humans can run into us." I can feel that she wants to fight back but she is trying to fight the urge. Seriously what has gotten into her.

Now that I know that everything is clear I start to jog lightly through the woods, maneuvering around some trees, everything is going smooth so far so I think I might just let Lynn take over and do as she pleases.

"Okay, I'm going to let you run around now but please don't get too crazy and then tell you to give control please listen to me okay. We can't afford any trouble right now." I instantly feel her mood boost up a few points and I let her take full control. She doesn't even give me a minute to adjust and just takes off running increasing her speed by the second. Now that I'm sitting back and relaxing, I can honestly say that this feels really nice, nothing feels better than having the wind rustle my fur. My senses are going on overdrive and I can smell anything that is near or far. I guess the cool thing about being a hybrid is the fact that everything about a wolf is more than doubled with the bit of vampire that I have in me.

I remember when my uncle's pack found out what happened to me at my old pack, insisted that my uncle should get rid of me. At that moment I didn't know what to do, I remember thinking to myself whether I had made the mistake of telling everyone all of the details. But luckily my uncle has always been known for not being afraid to take on a challenge, he wasn't worried at all and he insisted that everyone should give me a chance and just see how everything was going to affect me. I am grateful for everything that my uncle did for me, and he has been the best father figure that anyone could ask for. It saddens me to know that he can never have any children, but at least we have each other right?

'Hey earth to Adeline!' I'm pulled out of my thoughts and I get back to see what is ahead of us, Lynn is still running, however, I do notice a new scent in the air. What could it be? I don't think I have ever smelled anything like it before, it almost smells like when just after a rainy day.

"I'm here Lynn, what is that smell and has it been long since you've picked it up?" I can feel her speed decreased a little bit as she begins to change her route slightly just so we can have enough time to think of a plan in case we run into something dangerous.

'No it hasn't been long at all, I just came across it about a mile or two ago, what do you suppose we do?'

"I'm not sure. I mean it can literally be anything, we can turn around and leave if you want just to be safe, or do you want to just stay a little longer?" I have no doubt that we can handle whoever is out there. But what if we do encounter it and it is dangerous and then it leads to Lynn and I have to fight. Anything can happen at that point and we mustn't forget that we run the risk of a human seeing us.

'Well I can still smell whatever is out there I think it would be best to turn around and head home for the night, perhaps we can come again tomorrow?' not going to lie her decision to go home did take me by surprise, and I don't see why we wouldn't be able to go for another run tomorrow.

"That's fine with me, but tomorrow we can try going to another place, I don't want the same thing to happen again."

'Agreed.' We quickly turn around and start heading back to my car.

A few hours have passed since that stupid nightmare, it's as though the damn thing is constantly going through a loop in my head. I need to take a minute to myself, maybe a good run will do me justice. I quickly change into the running shorts and a tank top and head out the door, I'm glad I don't live far from the woods so I can easily walk there. The night air feels so good and the moon is extra bright.

'So are we going to talk about what happened earlier dude?' My wolf Anton asked me.

"I'm not sure I really want to get into this right now, besides I don't even know what the hell happened. I honestly thought you would know." We finally make it to the entrance of the woods and I take off my clothes and fold them placing them next to a tree for when I get back.

''I don't really know what happened either but what we had with that little minx was electrifying, I have a feeling that she's our mate.'

"How can you have a feeling, I thought you guys are supposed to know when you guys encounter your mates."

'Well, there are some cases where that doesn't exactly happen. Maybe our little minx is different from the others.'

"That's a good point. Perhaps she is different." I shift into my wolf and let myself get adjusted to my heightened senses

"Okay, you can do as you please now." Anton didn't even give it a second to sink in and he started running in an instant. I could feel him picking up speed by the second, his strength surprises me sometimes. But then again you have to expect this type of performance from an alpha wolf. I guess the good thing about moving is that no one knows who you are or more accurately who you really are. My family lets me come over here every year so that I can take my mind off of things. Sometimes it can be a little stressful handling all of the pack duties all on your own. That is why the sooner I find my mate the better life will be.

'nate, do you smell that?' I inhale deeply and I manage to detect a wonderfully sweet scent, it almost reminded me of lavender with a hint of rain afterward. Anton starts to lower himself to the floor, sniffing the ground moving a little to the left and then a little to the right depending on where the scent takes him next.

"whatever it is it smells amazing and so alluring!" Anton managed to pick up the scent going east towards the edge of the woods. He begins to pick up his pace dramatically so that he doesn't lose it again. The next thing I know Anton starts to run as though his life depended on it. The trees start to zoom by and I can feel both of us are fighting to get closer to the intoxicating scent.

A couple of minutes later, I get a quick glimpse of one of the most beautiful wolves that I have ever seen. Their fur was all white almost appearing as though it was glowing while the moon was hitting it. I began to run faster and faster until my legs physically couldn't take me any faster. I finally catch up to it.

As I get closer to it, I see that the beautiful wolf is actually a female wolf. I let out a little noise almost like a howl to let her know that I was near her. She turns her head towards me and I swear to the moon goddess my heart skipped a beat, her eyes were like any ones I have ever seen before. Her eyes were the brightest red with such an intense stair it felt as though her eyes were gazing into my soul. She turned her head back and then turned her attention back at me, for some reason, she begins to run faster man this girl is fast.
