A New Beginning

Chapter Eleven: The Truth

I awoke in a cold sweat. Unable to sleep after everything Eren told me. I looked to my right and saw him still asleep.

Guilt washed over me. He's in this mess because of me.

A few hours earlier

Eren started, "I don't know everything, but I know that the Ackerman bloodline is special. Historia is afraid of you, of what you're capable of. There are certain things you're immune to, and most people aren't. I'm still trying to better understand that."

There was a short pause.

I asked, "Is that all?"

He sighed, "That's a big part of it, but no that's not all."

I looked at him, waiting for him to keep going.

Eren reluctantly continued, "So you aren't going to like this. Historia doesn't exactly support our friendship. She is constantly questioning why I would want to be close to you, and she tells me that being friends with you puts me in danger."

He paused to let that sink in.

Eren started, "For a while, I didn't understand. I always argued with her when she would say that about you. I think she was trying to get me to end our friendship on my own. When she saw that I wasn't going to, things started to change. That's when the threats started. Historia told me that if I don't end our friendship, she would have you killed."

My head started to spin. Killed? Historia threatened to kill me? Why would she take it that far? I didn't think her and I had that poor of a relationship.

"What the hell is going on?", I asked.

Eren took a deep breath, "She wants me to become King."

My hands started to tremble. I felt like I couldn't catch my breath, was I starting to hyperventilate? My vision become spotty.

Eren grabbed my arms, "Mikasa! Breathe!"

I started to take deep breaths. With each breath, I was filled with rage. My body felt like fire.

I looked at Eren, "You will not be King."

He seemed worried, "Mikasa? What are you thinking? I don't have a choice, you will be killed if I don't agree."

I raised my voice, "I don't care! You aren't marrying her!"

"I'm not letting you die!", Eren shouted.

I became quiet, and thought about our options.

"Then here's what we do", I stated.

"We have to kill the Queen."

Current time

Obviously Eren quickly dismissed the idea of killing Historia. It was the heat of the moment, I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. Killing her would only put us in more danger, but we need to think of something.

"Mikasa?", A sleepy voice said.

"Oh, I'm sorry did I wake you?", I asked.

Eren smiled, "No I woke up because I have an idea, but it could cost us our lives. It would be extremely dangerous, but if it worked we would be free."

I grabbed his hand, "I'll do anything."

He nodded, "The plan is to run away."

"Run away? Where would we go?", I asked.

"To the land beyond the ocean", He said calmly.

I responded, "I thought that was only a myth."

Eren began, "I did too, but I now believe it's real. I heard them whispering about it around the palace. If we made it, we would be free. If we don't make it, we would be killed."

I thought for a moment, "Well we don't really have any other options do we?"

He said blatantly, "No."

I smiled, "If there's any chance for us to finally be free, I'll take it."

We embraced for a few short moments.

"What about Armin?", I asked.

"He can't come, it's too dangerous", Eren said.

I questioned, "Won't he be one of the first people questioned when we run away? What if he is in danger because of us?"

Eren responded, "I don't know if he can come with us this time."

My eyes welled up at the thought. The three of us did everything together.

I argued, "We can't leave him behind, Eren."

He replied, "I don't want to, but won't this put him in more danger?"

I said, "I don't think it will put him in any more danger than he will be in if we leave him. Besides he won't care, he will want to come with us."

Eren sighed, "Fine, but only the three of us."

I nodded in agreement.

He continued, "The sun will rise soon, you should get out of here before anyone sees you."

I asked, "When are we leaving?"

He responded, "Let's plan to next week after the rally. The district we are going to is close to the outside wall, it'll be easier that way. It will also give me more time to learn as much as I can about this new land. I'm going to see if I can figure out the fasted route too."

I smiled, "I can't believe we are actually doing this. If this works, our lives could change forever. Maybe we can finally just be normal people."

Eren chuckled, "I can't imagine us having normal lives, but I hope we get the chance to."

We both smiled. I noticed the sun would be rising soon.

"I need to get out of here. I'll see you next week. Leave Armin to me, we will also prepare supplies and whatever else we can", I said.

Eren nodded. He kissed me, and we said our goodbyes.

Soon we will be free.

Eren helped me scale down the wall, and I was off. If we get caught running away, then I will just have to complete my original plan. I won't let Historia control Eren's life anymore.

If she gets in the way of our freedom, I will not hesitate to end her life.
