"Help you? Do what?" Carol asks.
"Escape."
"I can't do that."
"Why not?"
"I don't have the guts." She looks down and laughs. "I don't have any guts at all."
Karen laughs too. "No, we don't. But we can."
"I'm listening."

"Ready?"
"You bet I am."
"Alright then, let's get started!"
Karen hoists herself into the barrel. Carol jumps in behind her.
"On my mark, light it up." Carol nods vigorously. "Alright. Three... two... GO! DO IT NOW!" Karen feels a spark of adrenaline as she and Carol are shot into the lake.

"Argh..." Karen sits up. Carol is standing beside her rubbing her arms.
"It worked!" Karen jumps up and pumps her fist into... John's chin.
"Aargh!"
"Oh, sorry... John." He nods and rubs his chin where Karen punched him. She laughs and throws her arms around him. "We did it!"
"Uhh-" John points to Carol, who is only half ghost now. She is silvery but in the flesh- rotten flesh. Her eyes pop and have a pale, ghostly feel to them. Her clothes are falling apart string by string.
"What?" She asks when she sees them staring.
"S-something went wrong."
"What?"
"I think it's because you've been dead a year. And you came back... well... dead a year."
"Oh no! Really?" Carol looks down at her hands and screeches.
"Oh yes." All three of them gasp and turn around. The little girl stands there. "I told you, that's the way the story goes. You can't cheat destiny..." and she vanishes.

Sorry about the super short chapter, guys! I have family over and I have to post right now, in the car, or I can't post at all.
