So, Dean and Castiel had agreed to meet at a bowling alley on the next Saturday, and Dean could hardly freaking wait.
At one point, he drove down, perfectly on time, arriving at 12 oclock - except it was Friday. The guy who was managing the place looked very confused when Dean walked in, stopped, looked around, rebooted and walked straight/gay back out again.
But anyway, it was Saturday now, and Dean was glad the impala was so steady as he drove. He shouldn't have been this freaked out by one effing date, but here he was. Freaked out by one effing date.
Cas was waiting outside the entrance, because the author cannot be bothered to type out Castiel every time she wants to talk about him.
He was fidgeting with his coat (don't make me tell you what it looks like, you know perfectly well what type it is), and he brightened when he saw Dean walking towards him.
Dean straightened his back and stood up taller, but it wasn't easy to keep up when he was nervous. And that was too straight for his taste anyway. He walked over and stood next to Cas.
"So... hi," Dean said. "You ok?"
"Yup. Just fidgety," Cas said.
They stood there for a bit, both nervous.
They stood there for a bit longer. It was kinda awkward.
"We should probably go in, instead of standing outside. It's cold."
"Yeah, that's a fair point," Dean said. "Wait, did I lock baby?" He took his car keys out of his lovely pocket and pressed them somewhere, before he put them away again. "Yep, she's locked."
They walked inside, and there was a brief power struggle over who would hold the door open for the other. Dean won.
"Wait, she?" Cas asked.
"Yeah," Dean said. "First thing you should know about me - my car is my child, and she is known as baby. Also known as the impala."
"Ok. Got it."
They walked into the reception area of the bowling alley, and Dean checked there was an empty lane. There was.
(I actually know like nothing about bowling or bowling alleys or how they work so please forgive me if I screw up)
They carried on into the main bowling area, and found their lane right at the end, whichever end you wan to imagine. Cas looked at the rack of multicoloured balls arrayed in front of the lane (a wonderful image). "Do you know how to do this?" he asked.
Just then, the same member of staff that Dean had befuddled yesterday came up to them. "Are you two boys ok? Do you need any help?"
Dean thought about the dude helping them learn to bowl, about him being so close. "No thanks, we're ok," he said.
"Do we just take balls from the rack?" Cas said.
"Yep, that's exactly what you do," the dude said. "Just make sure you don't get your fingers crushed!"
"Ok, thanks, uh..." Dean squinted at the nametag on the employees polo shirt. "...Jack. Thanks, Jack."
"No problem," Jack said. "By the way, I'm glad you got here with your date this time. Yesterday was kind of weird, you just kind of walked in and looked around and walked out again, huh?"
"Oh yeah, that was kinda weird for me too," Dean said. "Anyway, thanks buddy."
"No problem," Jack said, and he walked back to his looking-out-for-people-who-need-help position, near the dining area. Dean and Cas turned back to each other.
