(Three Weeks Later)

Scott kissed his way slowly down Daniel's torso, his hands sliding down Daniel's neck. A moment later, Scott sat up with a sigh, and started pulling his shirt back on.

"For God's sake, why don't you just go and talk to him?" He demanded. Daniel sat up as well, frowning.

"What?" Daniel followed Scott's lead and started re-dressing.

"You're not into this, are you?" Scott said softly. Daniel sighed heavily.

"I want to be. I really want to be, Scott. I really like you. I do. It's just..."

"You're still in love with Nicky," said Scott.

"I'm not in love with him," said Daniel firmly. "I just... things between us ended suddenly. I thought we'd be good friends. Instead..." He shrugged. Scott stared at him sceptically. "Look," said Daniel. "I chose you. I like you."

"But you love him." Scott said again. "I don't mind, Daniel. I only want to be with you if you want to be with me. And at the moment, you don't. So, go and talk to Nicky, fix whatever problems you have, and start over with him." Daniel stared at Scott for a moment, before he sighed and nodded wearily.

"I'm sorry," he said after a moment. "I... I really did think we could work." Scott smiled.

"I know... I did too. Good luck." Daniel smiled, and leant down to give Scott one last, lingering kiss, before he half ran from the room. He went down the hall to Nicky's room and knocked loudly on the door.

When there was no answer, he wandered out into the grounds, knowing Nicky liked to go running after dinner. He walked down to the coffee shop, didn't see Nicky, and headed for the woods instead. As he walked between the lines of trees, the hairs on the back of his neck began to stand up. He walked more slowly, listening intently. He crossed a small stream and continued through the trees, occasionally glancing back as he walked.

Daniel was about to turn back, resigned to not finding Nicky that evening, when a large black shape hurled out from behind a clump of close-set trees, snarling, and hit him, full-on. Daniel felt the dog's huge paws on his chest, pushing him to the ground, pinning him under a massive weight. The dog's hot breath was warm on his face as his fangs extended, and he returned the snarl menacingly. The werewolf sank its fangs into Daniel's shoulder, making the vampire scream as werewolf saliva entered his blood stream and began to burn like fire.

Daniel used all his strength to shove the dog off him, rolling away and scrambling to his feet. He considered running, for a split second, before the werewolf attacked again. Daniel stepped aside as the creature leapt and, with the speed of a striking snake, whipped his head around and sank his fangs deep into the wolf's neck. The werewolf howled in pain; its own great head snapped around, its sabre-like fangs trying to slash at his neck and shoulders. Daniel was forced to release the dog as its fangs tore his forearm open. Biting back a scream of pain, Daniel reached out, took the werewolf's head in his hands, and jerked his arms up and around as hard as he could.

There was a sickening crack, and the werewolf fell dead to the ground. Daniel stood for a moment, stunned, before the pain in his arm returned. Before his eyes, the werewolf was transforming again. Daniel rolled the body over, and immediately recognised Nicky's friend, Kieran. Breathing hard, Daniel stood up, cradling his injured arm. He was just wondering what to do when he running paws heading towards him. He whipped around, fangs bared, ready to attack, just as Nicky skidded into the clearing and transformed back into his human form, panting.

"I heard a howl. I can to see what was wrong." He saw Daniel's bleeding arm and looked concerned, before his eyes fell to Kieran's body. His eyes hardened. "What have you done?" He growled, running to kneel beside Kieran's body. His fingers searched blindly for a pulse. Daniel blinked and took a step back from him, suddenly scared by the anger in Nicky's eyes.
