The year is '94 and I just move in with my father, my stepmother and my two younger half sisters. It December and it cold and I am in the car with my sisters on the way to ccd classes when I hear Como La Flor (like a flower) and Baila Esta Cumbia (dance this cumbia) the two songs are from Selena live album (which had came out a year before) I love hearing these songs and started to humming along with Selena. Once we got to the the building that taught us ccd clases we got out.
Once the classes are done my stepmother would come and get us. I love waiting for my stepmother so I could chat with the other kids about the class, school and everything else kids my age talk would about. Once me and my sisters saw our ride we told people bye and see them tomorrow at school. On the way home I would hear Selena beautiful voice and I knew I had a good day.
Fast forward to March 31, 1995 and my family and I am getting ready to eat dinner and Entertainment Tonight has a story about Selena being killed my stepmother is shocked. I ask who is Selena and she told me I didn't really understand but I would soon come to know and love the lady they were reporting on.
Four months later Selena last studio album is release called Dreaming Of You. It was suppose to be an crossover album into the mainstream of pop music. Instead it serves as a farewell/ goodbye album. She only got to record four songs for the album the rest of the album is made up of Spanish hits and duets.
My stepmother bought the album. All I remember is getting out of my bed and getting the album and a getting a piece of paper so I could write down the lyrics to the songs so I could sing along with the voice I got introduce to months earlier. Trying to write lyrics to songs by the moonlight is hard also trying not to get caught because I'm suppose to be sleeping is even harder. At this point of my life it's exciting to do something at the time so daring. Looking back on it I wouldn't change my actions. I wanted to sing with Selena and this was the only way to do it.
