The first CD I ever bought was Selena's Dreaming Of You I bought it summer of 1996 as a birthday present for myself and that is how I started my music collection. By the the time I bought Dreaming Of You I don't think I had the lyrics mesmerized so I am very glad I bought the CD. That summer was very important not only because I got Selena but music started to play a very important role in my life and Selena was leading the way.
I started my journey on finding out who Selena Quintanilla - Perez was and the internet was a great tool to help me with this. With the internet and Dreaming Of You I couldn't 'to go wrong. The Dreaming Of You booklet has four pages of information about Selena's life for the listener to read. After the liner notes are done the rest of the booklet is lyrics in Spanish and English to all thirteen songs then there is an order forum to order Selena merchandise and that complete the booklet.
Once I bought the CD I couldn't stop playing try to mimic all the Spanish songs and enjoying the English ones. I would listen to it every chance I got it was a shiny new toy I got on Christmas. I didn't have a portable CD player yet so I only had my mother boom box to play the CD on and believe that is how I play the CD. My two favorite songs off of Dreaming Of You are track eight and track thirteen.
The title of track eight is Wherever You Are ( Dondequiera Que Estes). This song is a duet between Selena and her labels mates Barrio Boyzz. (Think of them as a Latin version of *Nsync or Backstreet Boys). The song was originally done in Spanish and it was release as a single in 1993 off of the Barrio Boyzz CD of the same name. When Selena died they redid the song and the Barrio Boyzz did their part in English and put the song on Dreaming Of You. It one of the highlight of the album if you ask me. Still to this day I listen to this version over the Spanish version because it was the first version I heard.
The title of track thirteen is Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. The song is a single off of her last Spanish CD Amor Prohibido (Forbidden Love). It a Cumbia (a type of music) and it's up beat beat like pop music which is probably why it's my all time favorite Selena song. It was the first Selena I play to death and still do to this day. Selena co - wrote the song and it about the feeling about a person you like and they make your heart get excited. Everyone can relate to the song because it's a love song with a fun beat.
The rest of the album is very good to I just wanted to tell you my two favorite songs off it but I don't play the CD to much these days but I'll tell you why later. The album debut on Billboard 200 at number one and also on the Latin Charts. She is the only artist to have a mostly Spanish CD debut at one on Billboard 200 and the achievement still stands nineteen years later.
