1st September 1939
Dear Diary,Yesterday was quite the day for tears and unhappy thoughts. I still remember the announcement on the radio. Every word as clear as a bell ringing.
As we left yesterday afternoon, I took one last look at our beloved family home. Mother and father had put so much work into making this house just perfect. It broke my heart to be walking away from what seemed like Neverland...
We travelled to the station in a car driven by a strange looking man. He seemed nice and was very polite, despite his strange looks.
As we pulled up to the station, mother had to go and collect our train tickets from a stand. So I was left with Father, dear brother James and my sister Tallulah. They had tear-stained faces and look very pale in colour.
When mother returned with our tickets we proceeded towards the train, but I needed to use the toilet before we got on, I mean, it is a four hour journey after all.
Mother took me and waited outside. I was fascinated by the wall art and specific objects lying around. It wasn't as magnificent as our bathroom back home, but it was still very grand.
I must have lost track of time, because I heard the whistle being blown for the train to go. Mother shouted and told me to hurry up, so I did as she pleased and came out as soon as possible.
As we were heading towards the train, it was very crowded, with people of various heights and sizes. I got squashed between everyone as I'm only small, and mother was trying to get me onboard. But, everything seemed to fall apart, the next thing I realised was that I was on the floor, staring at the train moving away from the station....
I was mortified. Terrified. Frightened. And, most of all, upset. I couldn't believe it! I must have fallen over and mother lost track of me. I had to find a way of getting on another train, and fast.
I have to go and find another way quick, but I'll update you as soon as possible, I'm so glad I left you in my pocket, or else I'd feel lonely.
Bye Diary,
Elizabeth
