I watched out the window with wide eyes as the figures outside came closer and closer to the cabin. One of them was incredibly tall, but with the night's darkness, that was the only difference I could see between the two.

My heart thumped faster in my chest as fear grew in the pit of my stomach. What if it's that Toby guy? What if he's going to try to hurt me again? What if it's something else?

Jeff wasn't here. He couldn't protect me if something happened.

I cringed at myself for being so dependent on Jeff. I quickly ran to the kitchen and dug through the drawers trying to find anything to defend myself with. I found a small knife and quickly ducked behind the couch just as the doorknob began to jostle. I held my breath and watched the door.

When it opened, Jeff stepped inside, covered in blood from head to toe. I let out a gasp as I dropped the knife. Jeff turned his head, looking at me with his eyes impossibly wide.

"Reese? What are you doing awake?" he asked. I couldn't say a word. All I could do was sit there on the floor and stare at his blood covered form. Jeff seemed to notice this as he looked at himself before slowly walking towards me. "Reese, I'm sorry."

I quickly shuffled backwards to get away from him. He stopped.

"I didn't want you to see this," Jeff said, quietly, kneeling in front of me. "But, honestly, what did you expect from me?"

I opened my mouth in an attempt to answer, but a creaking noise made me stop. I looked at the open door and my eyes widened. Standing in the doorway and shrouded in shadow, was an enormously tall man in a suit. His long arms were almost to the ground and he was frighteningly skinny. The most frightening thing about him was that there was no face to look at. No eyes, ears, nose, or anything. The entire head was blank white.

I could hear my blood rushing through my ears and my head began to throb. Spots danced across my vision as it distorted and my breathing became erratic. My stomach churned and I felt like I was going to vomit.

"Stop it, Slender," I heard Jeff say. "Leave him alone."

I was so focused on the man in the doorway that I hadn't noticed when Jeff came closer to me. He covered my eyes with a blood-covered hand and gently lowered me to the floor with the other. I curled up in a ball as I shook.

"Reese, calm down. It's fine. Just close your eyes," Jeff told me. He moved his hand away from my eyes as I shut them. "Just stay still and I'll take care of it."

I heard him stand up and he walked away. No! Don't leave! Come back! I began to freak out more and gripped my legs tightly as I squeezed my eyes shut even more. No, no, no! This can't be happening!!!

"Let's talk outside," Jeff said, the sound of a door closing followed not long after. There was silence except the sound of muffled talking and my heart's pounding. I laid there for what felt like forever-and-a-half before the door opened again and footsteps came toward me. A hand touched my shoulder and I flinched away with a whimper. "Reese, it's okay. It's just me."

When I didn't answer him, he let out a quiet sigh and stood up, once again walking away. I could hear shuffling and running water. Then the sounds disappeared and Jeff's footsteps came back. I felt a warm, wet cloth brush over my forehead and eyelids before it wash pulled away. Then a blanket was draped over my body and my head was lifted up to rest on a pillow.

"You're such a handful," Jeff's voice muttered. He laid down at my back and wrapped an arm around me. "I can't blame you, though. The first time I met Slenderman, I almost pissed myself. It happens to all of us, but don't worry. I'll take care of you."

Jeff's voice had calmed me down quite a bit and I wasn't shaking as bad. I still had my eyes shut and I hugged my legs, but not as tightly as before. I didn't know how this was helping, but for some reason, Jeff's presence made me feel safe.

We laid there on the floor for the rest of the night. I listened to Jeff's soothing voice until I drifted off into a shockingly dreamless sleep.

The morning light peering through the window hit my face like a flashlight pointed right at my corneas. I hissed as I rolled over to shield my face from the brightness. I curled up on the hard floor, burying my face in the cloth of what I assumed was Jeff's shirt.

"Good morning," Jeff whispered.

"Mm~ Morning," I mumbled, sleepily, pushing my face further into his chest, coaxing a giggle from him.

"Still tired?" Jeff asked, wrapping an arm around me.

I nodded, grabbing fistfuls of his shirt and tugging.

"Okay, but let's get you in bed before you doze off again," Jeff said as he sat up, causing me to lose hold of him. I didn't want to open my eyes, but forced myself to open them as I sat up, too. The blanket fell away from me and a shiver ran through my body at the sudden loss of warmth. Jeff helped me up as he picked up the pillow and blanket. He wrapped his free hand around my waist as he led me to the bedroom. He threw the blanket and pillow on the bed as I flopped onto it sleepily.

"Sleep well, baby," Jeff told me, brushing the hair away from my face.

"Shut up," I yawned as I curled up in the still-warm blanket.

"I'll be in the kitchen if you need me," he laughed. Without another word, he left me alone in the room.

I yawned again and closed my eyes, quickly drifting off to sleep.

I ran through the forest as fast as I could go. My heart pounded in my chest and my ears rang. I was being chased. No matter where I looked, he was there, always catching up with me.

Then he disappeared and I slowed down a bit, looking for him. There were no signs of him. Suddenly, a long black coil wrapped around my ankle and dragged me to the ground. I kicked and screamed as I tried to free myself.

It was only in that moment that I saw the creature at the other end of the coil. The Slenderman. More coils stretched out from his back, holding my friends and family hostage. Then, to my horror, the tentacles constricted around them one at a time. First, it was Taylor, then Spencer, my Dad, my Mom, and last of all was Sam. Each one screamed as they were squeezed so tight that their ribcages and organs made loud cracking and bursting sounds and their clothes became stained with blood.

"No! No!" I screamed. "Stop it!"

My cries made no impact on the monster who had forced me to watch my loved ones die. Blood streamed out of their noses, eyes, and mouths as their lifeless forms dangled in the tight grip.

Tears poured down my cheeks as I watched the horrific scene. Then the fiend lifted me into the air and poised a free appendage so it was ready to impale me. I screamed and flailed around as it went sailing through the air.

"Reese! Reese! Wake up!"

My eyes shot open as I screamed. I sat bolt upright and looked around as tears and sweat rolled down my face. Jeff sat in front of me with a concerned look on his face.

"Reese, you were having a nightmare.  Are you okay?" Jeff asked, holding my shoulders gently. I felt a new wave of tears well up in my eyes as I let out a sob. "Gosh, Reese, you're shaking like a leaf." Jeff protectively wrapped his arms around me, holding me close as I cried my eyes out.

We stayed like that for a long time, with Jeff holding on to me as I wept over the worst nightmare I'd ever had.
