Saniwa scampered out of her office, a stack of papers hugged protectively against her chest. Her head was down, and she promptly ran into someone.

"O-oh! I'm so sorry!" she squeaked, stumbling backwards and dropping papers all over the porch.

The person grabbed her shoulders to steady her. Saniwa looked up to thank him, and realized with horror that she'd run into Souza Samonji.

She promptly put on a smile. "So-souza-san! Good morning!"

Souza looked at her with a smile, but she knew way too well it was completely fake.

"Good morning to you, Aruji. Why are you looking at me like that? Are you afraid you might have broken me?"

She didn't respond, simply tore her gaze away from his stunning features and set about picking up the papers she'd so carelessly dropped. Souza was amazingly beautiful, and she knew if she didn't distract herself, she would wind up staring at him, lost in that beauty. With any of her other swords, she may feel comfortable watching them from afar, but in Souza's case, he would make some sort of biting comment, and even though he never raised his voice, whenever he did something like that, it felt like a slap in the face.

To her surprise, Souza helped her with the papers. (F/N) noted the subtle shift in his expression when he looked at them, and noticed once again that he was not to be sent into battle. (F/N) quickly snatched them away, put them back in the pile, and handed it to him before he could say anything.

"Souza-san, can you please gather the people on this list? I—I have some work to do, and it would be a...it would be a great help." She winced at her own stuttering.

With a sullen expression, he took the papers from her. "Well, I cannot disobey my Aruji's orders, now can I?"

She flinched, and frantically searched her mind for the right words.

"It's not...an order. It's a request."

But by the time she got the words out, he was already gone.

Saniwa was out with her papers again, this time, securely fastened to a clipboard. She was scanning the Citadel, looking for someone in particular.

Ookurikara walked by, and she took a step back, wondering whether or not to talk to him. Deciding he was one of her swords, and she shouldn't be so hesitant, she braced herself to speak.

Fortunately, though, Ookurikara noticed her before she had to.

"Do you need something, Aruji-dono?"

She nodded, and took a deep breath before speaking. "Yes...um...do you know where...where Souza-san is?"

He gestured in one direction, and she nodded in thanks before running off, a genuine smile on her face.

I don't talk to Ookurikara a lot. I forgot he's quiet like me! That makes me feel better!

She was still in a good mood when she found Souza, sitting on the porch with a book in his hand.

"Souza-san! There you are!" she called.

He looked up, and her heart leapt just a little.

"Are you okay?" she asked. "I noticed you skipped dinner again last night, so I left food outside your door. Did you eat it?" I don't want you to waste away.

Souza didn't reply to her question, simply slipped a bookmark into his book and set it down.

"I'm curious what it is you really want to talk about, Aruji."
