Kara looked around her apartment. Glass was everywhere, but there was no one to be seen. From the look of things, J'onn hadn't put up a fight, but let someone in. Someone who took him, Juliet and even Destiny.
"Alex, you need to get over to my apartment. Something's happened."
"Like what exactly?"
"A kidnapping."
"J'onn and Juliet?"
"And Destiny. Her bag's here. Looks like she planned to stay the night again."
"Destiny?! I'll be right there. I'll have the DEO put up an amber alert and missing persons. Leave everything the way it is, and go back to work."
"My daughter is missing and you just want me to go back to Catco?"
"Trust me. I'll show up, call the police, and we'll find them before this nightmare gets blown out of proportion. The hardest part is just acting normal until I call you at Catco in about a half hour."
"You better hurry up with that then. And I hope you're right Alex." Kara's thoughts were still on Juliet. She wanted her to have a normal life, but normal didn't seem to be in any vocabulary of a Danvers, alien or human. All she could do now was just hope if anything went from wrong to worse, Juliet's instincts would kick in. She was the daughter of two superheroes after all.
Meanwhile, Juliet was sitting in the back of a truck with Destiny, J'onn and a man she had figured must have been her Grandfather. She looked at the chains on her hands and the armored guard. A thought went through her mind: What if she was bulletproof like her mother?
She and Destiny shared a look. Knowing her cousin, she was either admiring the guns or planning an escape. She may have even been wondering about her Grandfather like her. But the moment she realized they might have a chance to escape, she knew she had to talk it over with her cousin, and hopefully they could come up with a plan.
"Dez, do you think I'm bulletproof?" Juliet whispered quietly as she pulled her legs up to her chest.
"Sounds risky." Destiny whispered back in a whisper Juliet could only hear because of her enhanced hearing. "We don't know where we are, how far from home we might be, and what if those bullets hit someone?"
"Mom jokes I bounce around around like a bullet, so I don't see why I can't catch one."
"I'm talking about a lot of bullets, Juliet. What do you see over your glasses?"
Juliet looked only to find she could couldn't see through the truck. "Nothing. It's lead coated or something."
"Who coats a truck with lead?"
"Professionals." J'onn said from his seat in the corner. He had been listening to everything around him.
"Quiet, Martian!" The guard yelled.
"Don't talk to him like that!" The Danvers yelled back. J'onn looked at the two girls with a little smile, wondering how he would get them out of this mess.
"Shut up you aliens."
"Actually, I'm the alien, she's the adopted human." Juliet verified angrily. Suddenly they took a curve and shots fired.
"Everything ok back there?" The driver yelled from an intercom.
"Yeah, warn me next time you're going to turn though. Lillian wants the Martian and Kryptonian child alive!" He turned back to see what he hit, only to find a girl in broken cuffs holding the bullets. He readied his weapon.
"Daxtonian. And that gun isn't going to do any good on someone who's bulletproof." She let the bullets drop with a very satisfying sound. The guard looked scared for a minute but then thought of something he thought was clever.
"But you people go by a code, don't you?"
"So do you, it would seem. But I'm still getting the hang of all these codes and I don't have time to meet this Lillian, but please. Give them my warmest regards." She then broke his gun and pushed him in a corner. Then she broke J'onn's and Destiny's chains, but when she went to break Jeremiah's, he just smiled at her with tears in his eyes.
"I can't go with you. I'm sorry."
"It'll be fine. You can wear my dad's ring and Destiny can fly with J'onn!"
"Are you Alex's daughter, Destiny?"
"Yeah. She's my adopted mother. What about it?" Destiny asked as, since she had no codes, broke the guards face for everything she felt was deserved and then some.
"Tell her to keep Lillian on lockdown if she can help it. And that I'll be home very soon, if not permanently then with more news. Now please go!"
Juliet used her heat vision to melt the roof and the three took off into the clouds for cover. J'onn went back and the two girls hoped it was for Jeremiah. But he came back alone.
"I had to do something I didn't want you girls to see."
"Could you tell us? My five year old cousin just caught bullets to save us, so nothing much could surprise me."
"I erased the guard's memories." In response the two girls gasped.
"And Jeremiah?" Juliet asked.
"His family is his world. With the knowledge that he has two granddaughters that are like the daughters he left years ago, he has another reason to spy on Cadmus." Suddenly, Juliet screamed in pain. "Must be some Kryptonite in those bullets. Let's get out of here." He grabbed the little girl so she wouldn't spiral out of the sky. But Juliet was pleased with herself, despite the pain she was in.
She was starting out as a pretty good superhero, just like her mother.
