Twenty One

Daniel's POV

We had just finished dinner and we're sitting having a few drinks with a whole lot of people who help us out and organise things for us, along with a whole bunch of people who are just friends and acquaintances. I noticed that Cam had been quiet and wasn't really talking. I walked over to Cam just as Madison sat down at the table with her; they'd been introduced briefly to each other earlier in the week.

"So, I heard about what happened and I was wondering what the driver got... I mean what he was sentenced too?" Madison asked Cam. I looked over to Cam, her face clearly showing her distress from being asked.

"You'll have to excuse me." I heard Cam say before she stood up and walked out.

I quickly looked around and saw the rest of the boys involved in conversations and realised that they hadn't noticed Cam's sudden departure. I quickly stood up and made my way out, following Cam, and found her outside leaning against a pillar, out of view from everyone inside.

Cam's POV

I wasn't prepared for Madison to ask me about the sentence the drive got. I just had to excuse myself and get out of there. I didn't want to cry but I couldn't help myself. As soon as I got outside, I made sure I was out of sight, leant against a pillar and burst into tears.

"Oh Cam, come here." Daniel said opening his arms for me, I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck as he wrapped his arms around my waist, gently rubbing my back trying to calm me down.

"It's gonna be ok Cam." Daniel said lightly as I let go of him and stepped back.

"I'm sorry. You should go back inside, I'll be fine." I said.

"Here." Daniel said handing me a napkin to wipe my eyes.

"Thanks." I replied taking it and gently wiping under my eyes as my eyeliner and mascara had run with my tears.

"I heard what Madison said." Daniel told me.

"You know, today makes it three months since Mason died. I thought it would help to go see the driver, ask why he did what he did, but he didn't care. It didn't help." I blurted out not thinking.

"Oh god Cam, why didn't you say anything?" he asked.

"I couldn't." I replied not knowing what else to say.

Daniel's POV

"I couldn't." Cam told me, her eyes still filled with tears.

"You know what, I'm over this function thing and I don't know about you but I could use a late night treat. Why don't we get out of here and go to Bob's?" I suggested knowing that Cam couldn't go back in there as she was.

"Are you sure?" Cam asked.

"Yeah, I want food. And I could use some company." I replied.

"Ok, it sounds good." Cam replied as I linked our arms together as we started walking.

"I'll text Ronnie and let him know we've gone for a walk and we'll meet them at home." I told Cam pulling out my phone and texting him as we walked.

"I can't believe how warm it still is considering its so late." Cam stated.

"It's nice though. Here we are." I said as I opened the door and we walked in.

"Do you want a window seat or..." I trailed off.

"Window seat sounds good." Cam answered quietly. We walked over and sat on either side of the table, grabbing a menu each.

"Do you want to split a few things?" I asked.

"Sounds good as long as we can get some fries." Cam smiled.

"And chicken fingers. I added.

"And ice cream." Both Cam and I said in unison making her smile and me laugh.

"Hi, what can I get for you two tonight?" The waitress came over and asked us.

"Hi, can we have some chicken fingers, chili cheese fries, two vanilla cokes, a hot fudge banana sundae and a sundae with a strawberry topping; and can we have two spoons for each please?" I ordered.

"Sure, will that be all." The waitress asked making Cam laugh.

"Yes thanks." I replied.

"Alright, that won't be long." She replied.

"Thanks." Cam said just before she left to get our order.

"I should properly tell you that your eyeliner has smudged slightly panda Cam." I told Cam, who quickly grabbed a wipe out of her bag and wiped the smudged make up away.

"Thanks for telling me after we get here." Cam said jokingly.

"That's alright, so do you want to tell me about the prison visit. I won't say anything." I asked her cautiously.

"I thought it would give me some sort of weird closure, I mean I just wanted to understand why...but it didn't, it only made me angry." Cam explained.

"Here we go. Enjoy." The waitress told us as she delivered all of the food and our drinks.

"Thanks." Cam and I said in unison.

"This looks so good." Cam stated.

"Well lets dig in." I said grabbing a chicken finger.

Cam's POV

Daniel and I finished eating and left the diner. We caught a cab back to the house.

"Daniel." I said as we walked down the drive towards the door.

"Yeah." He replied.

"I'm sorry for ruining your night but thank you." I told him.

"You didn't ruin my night Cam." Daniel told me.
