A Sorry Existence

A crunch of branches and leaves filled the cold air of the undergrowth. Small creatures ran in fear of the towering creature. Dark scales littered his otherwise pale body. Large wings were folded behind him to avoid injury in the thick trees. Deep blue eyes surrounded by the same dark scales watched as the "lesser" creatures ran from him. Growls would rise in his throat along with loud clicks. He was looking for an easy meal. That's when he heard it, a large body hitting the trees above him. The male growled and made quick work of climbing the tree. The sight was an annoyance.

"Triton! Get your sorry ass out of my hunting grounds!" The male dragon like roared and swung his clawed hand at the other hybrid.

"Hey! Hey! Kolvar! No need to be violent now!"  With one flap of his feathered wings, Triton was in the air.

"What do you want you feathered nuisance?" Kolvar growled and started to climb down the tree.

"Well I've been hearing rumors about Talora taking in a hybrid child!" Triton lands on the ground, his bird like talons digging into the dirt below him. His feathers ruffled up on his legs to keep himself warm.

"That bitch of a mermaid? I heard she eats the runts that get thrown down here!" Kolvar snarled and sat down.

"Oh don't say that Kolvar! She's not that cruel!" Triton ruffled the feathers on his head in his own mental dismay.

"She tried to eat me when I was a tot! She's evil and cruel! That kid is a goner!" Kolvar stretched his wings to emphasize a point.

"Well then why don't you go save the wee thing?" Triton looked confused.

"I. Hate. Kids. I have you to deal with and your all the childishness I can handle!" Kolvar kicked Triton's leg out from under him, causing Triton to fall forward into the dirt. Triton squawked out a terrified shriek and took off into the air, or at least tried. His feathers dripped with mud making it near to impossible to get off the ground. He could get about three feet up but would fall right back down.

"Kolvar! Now I can't even get home! Your so mean!" Triton cried out and shook his wings helplessly.

"Now you could easily become my meal and yet you won't. You wanna know why?"

"Why?"

"Because your the only creature that doesn't run from me." Kolvar hissed, he hated giving compliments and even one as simple as that left a bad taste in his mouth.

"Awe! You do love me Kolvar!" Triton practically sang.

"Not even close." Kolvar rolled his eyes. He slowly pushed himself up and began to walk away.

"Kolvar! Wait! Please I'm scared for the child! Please! You need to go check on it! I don't want it to die! Please! Please! Please Kolvar!" Triton cried out and grabbed Kolvar's arm.

"Triton-"

"Please! Please! Please! Pretty please Kolvar! I hate it when babies die down here and if you can stop it then I beg you to do so! Please Kolvar! Please-"

"Shut up! Just shut up! I'll go check to see if the stupid little thing is still alive if it'll get you to be quiet!" Kolvar roared. Triton let out a squeak and then smiled.

"Yay." Triton celebrated quietly to himself as Kolvar began to walk in the direction of Talora's lagoon. The walk wasn't very long but with Triton talking his ear off it felt like hours but eventually he made it. Tall cliffs over looked the lagoon with vines cascading down from them. Lilly pads  and other plants covered the waters surface, only small streams of light ever got through. Rocks peek out of the water for sun bathing. It was a mermaids paradise.
