Tobias POV

I wake up with Tris in my arms, her head on my chest using one of my arms as a pillow, Her lips slightly tilted up. She looks so young when she sleeps, if i didnt know i would say she was a 6th grader, 7th at best. She looks so peacful, i dont have the heart to wake her. so i just sit, watching her until her eyes flutter open.

"Hey" i whisper

"Good morning" she yawn, reaching her arms above her head to stretch. Her nose scrunches adorably. My phone ringing ruins the moment, i scramble to get it, its my dad. I inwardly panic, hes gonna be mad. I answer the phone.

"Where are you?" he yells, i look over at Tris, thankfully she didnt hear it.

"im at a friends house working on a project," i lie.

"did i say you could?" he yells.

"No" i mumble.

"Come home now." he hangs up.

"Im sorry Tris, i have to go. My dads mad i didnt tell him i was staying here last night." She looks concerned.

"Its fine," i lie yet again."Oh, before i leave, i havent taken you on an official date yet, are you free later?"

"Ya." she responds, after mentally going through her schedual. "my mom dosent come back until tomorrow so im not doing anything today."

"Ok, I'll pick you up at 5."

she nods, giving me a quick kiss before i leave.

As soon as i get home, my dad screams at me, calling me useless, stupid, asking how anyone could ever love me, and that i should be grateful he didnt put me on the streets. I dont say anything in response, knowing that it only makes things worse. He makes me take off my shirt and beats me repeatedly with a belt, until it hurts so much i cant feel it anymore. I wont cry though, I'll never let him see me cry.
