Chapter 5: Sparring and Memories.

          

Everyone was sitting in Glynda and Vanta's combat class, watching Jaune and Cardin fight each other.

Jaune was getting his ass absolutely handed to him as it looked like he had never used a weapon in his life.

(Y/N): come on Jaune... what are you doing?!

Kuro: it looks like the kid has never used that sword in a duel until this point.

Ray just sits there spacing out for a moment, lightly gripping the neon blue letterman jacket.

Midnight: hey, Ray, you okay?

Ray: h-huh? ...yeah, just a bit of Deja-vu is all...

(Y/N): I wouldn't worry about it too much buddy, happens to everyone from time to time.

The clashing of steel draws them all out of their talk and back to the battle where they see Jaune with the sword in a two handed stance, trying to push Cardin back as he blocks the blow.

Cardin easily pushes Jaune back and towers over him before delivering a decisive kick to the stomach, launching Jaune back.

After that Cardin just shakes his head a little and hefts his mace onto his shoulder before walking over and offering a hand to Jaune just as the buzzer rang.

Jaune gladly takes his hand as the two move out of the way for the teachers.

Glynda: now students as you can see, Mr. Arc's aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament style duel this would indicate Jaune is no longer fit for battle and that the official may call the match. Mr. Arc it's been weeks now, please try to refer to you scroll during combat-

Vanta: easy there Glynda, I know the kid didn't do well but you seem to be forgetting this is a combat class after all.

He gives a slight smirk as Glynda just glares at him a little before moving back.

Vanta: now then, can anyone here tell me what Cardin did right that Jaune seemed to forget?

Suddenly a hand shoots up and a voice starts chanting over and over "ME, PICK ME!"

Vanta: alright, Ruby, mind telling the class?

Ruby: Jaune forgot to keep his guard up and wait for an opening! Instead going on the offense leaving himself open at every angle!

Vanta: correct. now then, Jaune, please see me later for extra lessons, we need to work on your stance and shield usage.

Jaune: r-right...

Vanta: oh don't beat yourself up about it, you're at a combat SCHOOL, you're here to learn, aren't you?

Jaune: ...yeah.

Vanta: there, now then we have time for one more match.... Let's see.... (Y/N).

(Y/N): me? Okay I guess.

Vanta: and as for your opponent... let's see your skills against a speed based opponent.

Suddenly several hands shoot up to fight against (Y/N) causing him to swear drop.

(Y/N): w-well then....

Vanta: alright, Midnight, you're up!

Midnight: m-me?! I'm not all that fast though....

Vanta: yes you are, you've got one of the faster weapons here and right now you're the only one who has been avoiding fights.

Although a bit nervous the wolf just nods and stands up, making her way up to the arena alongside (Y/N).
