I woke up feeling freezing, I gazed up to my window and watched the rain fall slowly down. I guess I could skip one day of school, Im just afraid that Daniel will think im not atschool because im too scared to face up to him, that's not the reason. I just feel out of it today, it' raining and I need a bit of ime away from everyone. Jessica will probably be texting me every second asking where I am. My door opened slightly and my Mum stepped inside my room. ''Ella, could you do me a big favour?'' She asked, her eyes pleading me.
I sighed and turned my body to her ''What kind of big favour?'' I asked raising my eyebrows, knowing her it was probaby to go out and get a pack of condoms. Which I will not be doing by the way. ''I promised my friend Nicole i'd look after her children while she has to work over-time at work today.'' She started, I sighed knwoing she'd want me to be her replacement. ''I have a hangover Ella, could you please just go to their house and feed them and whatever else children need.'' She said with hope in her eyes. I hated being so responsible but someone had to be.
I nodded my head and trailed out of bed to my wardrobe. Well at least I have another reason to stay off school now.
I put on some denim shorts and a vest top, smiling at myself through the mirror, I let my hair fall into place by shaking it around. I walked downstairs to find my Mum holding her head in her arms, leaned against the table. ''Ella, Nicole's address is on the counter in the kitchen, im really tired.'' She said quickly before I could open my mouth. It was like she was expecting me to say something.
I nodded silently and walked slowly to the kitchen. I knew she wasn't going to talk to me when she was in this state, she was in the ''Ella I told you I had a hangover!'' State, that obviously means I get the blame for everything she does. Im grateful I get to go out even if it is to look after a few children. I grabbed the address from the table and pulled on my converse.
I walked through the door, pushing my hands in my pockets. I can't believe I wore denim shorts and a vest top when it's freezing outside. I cursed at myself as I walked round the streets. The cold breeze surrounded my body, I remember I felt like this when Dad died, I felt cold and useless, like there was no reason to live, I thought it was impossible to stop the tears.
I approached a middle sized house and knocked on the white door. I hope I got the right address, I glanced around the garden to see dying flowers and over grown grass, I sighed then turned round. The door white door suddenly opened and there stood a boy with shaggy blonde hair and blue eyes, he was wearing jeans and a 'Call of Duty' tee shirt, I noticed he had glasses on but his blue eyes sparkled out from them. I smiled and his hand left his side and slowly travelled aong my cheek. ''Why are you crying?'' He asked, taking his hand away. I had no idea I was crying, must have been the thought of my Dad.
''Hay fever.'' I simply replied.
''It's November.'' He said, a smile parted his red lips.
''Maybe it came late?'' It came out as a question.
''Maybe.'' He giggled. A woman held his shoulders and grinned at me ''You must be Ella, Im Nicole, your Mum's told me so much about you, she was right when she said you were beautiful.'' Nicole said holding her hand out, I shook it, smiling to myself I didn't know my Mum called me beautiful, im obviously not but it feels good to know she thinks so.
''This is Nathan, James is up stairs on the x-box, I have to go now but there's food in the fridge if they get hungry and Nathan knows my number if there's an emergency, have fun.'' She said quickly then kissed Nathan's head before leaving. I saw Nathan frown when she walked away. ''So your our new babysitter then.'' He said , standing to the side to let me in, I walked in and felt the heat hug me.
''You could get pneumonia from what your wearing in this weather.'' He stated, closing the door.
''Il be alright thanks.'' I said quietly.
''You can watch tv or something.'' He said opening the living room door.
I smiled and thanked him before dropping myself down on a warm leather sofa, I grabbed the TV remote and flicked through the channel's until I got to a music channel. I let my eyes roam around the room, the room was homely, I felt comfortable. Just then Nathan came through the door with a cup in his hand, he handed me it carefully, his hand swept across mine and I got this tingly feeling inside. I smiled as I pressed my lips against the hot cup of hot chocolate. ''Thanks'' I muttered, he grinned and sat next to me.
''You probably think I look like a homeless person.'' I blurted laughing as his eyes studied me.
''Nah, I think your sexy.'' He said giggling and slouching back on the sofa. I felt myself blush, but brushed it off quickly.
''So how old are you?'' I asked changing the subject.
''Ten, im eleven this month though.'' He added the last part quickly.
''Im fourteen.'' I said, watching him watch me (If that makes sense)
''Is your Dat at work?'' I asked.
''He left us 4 years ago.'' He replied, shrugging.
''I- I didn't realise, sorry.'' I said quietly. He didn't look hurt at all.
''Im over it.'' He sighed.
''I know how you feel my Dad died from a heart attack when I was 8 so I guess were on the same track.'' I said, trying to smile.
''That's different, your Dad didn't choose to leave, mine did.'' He said calmly.
I couldn't say anything, I realised what he just said was true, his Dad wanted to leave him, mine didn't.
''This music sucks.'' He said, pointing to Britney Spears on the music channel.
''Hey I like this.'' I laughed, pushing his arm lightly.
''Britney is pants.'' He said rasing an eyebrow at me.
''What music do you like then?'' I asked curiously.
''AFI, Flyleaf that sort of stuff.'' He replied, turning over the channel.
''Screamo?'' I asked, shocked.
He nodded. ''I like the words.''
''Can you sing screamo style?'' I asked, smiling.
''No, I can play guitar though.'' He chuckled.
''That's cool.'' I said, grinning.
''You have pretty eyes Ella.'' He said, his eyes followed mine.
''Thankyou.'' I replied, cursing mentally for blushing again. He laughed which made me smile. His laugh was sweet, for 10 years old he was quite handsome as well, in a geek sheek sort of way.
