"I NEVER EXPECTED TO GET SO ATTACHED TO THE MORTALS, BUT I DID. AND I'M NOT SORRY I DID, BECAUSE THEY ARE AMAZING. THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I AM, AND THEY STILL LOVE ME."

JOSIE SCRATCH DOESN'T live with her brother, Nicholas in Greendale. He attends the Academy of Unseen Arts, whereas she attends Riverdale High. Yes, most witches are supposed to attend the academy as soon as they reach the age of sixteen, but Josie isn't like most witches.

Her brother grew up in Greendale with their father, and Josie grew up in Riverdale with her mother. Josie's father embraces his powers while Josie's mother has always done her best to forget she's a witch. So Josie has always attended school for mortals, and practices magic when she visits her father on the weekends.

However, both towns seem like every other small town across the world. Decent, innocent, and so safe. But if you get close enough, you'll see that neither town is anything like that. Greendale has witches that live in plain sight, and Riverdale... well, Riverdale seemed innocent until the Blossom twins went out on Sweetwater River on the Fourth of July.

On that day, the Blossom twins went out on the river for an early morning boat ride. The next thing we know happened for sure is that Dilton Doiley, who was leading Riverdale's Boy Scout Troop on a bird watching expedition, came upon Cheryl at the river's edge.

Riverdale Police dragged Sweetwater River for Jason's body, but never found it. So a week later, the Blossom family buried an empty casket, and Jason's death was ruled an accident, as the story that Cheryl told made the rounds. That Cheryl dropped a glove in the water, and Jason reached down to get it, and accidentally tipped the boat, and panicked, and drowned.

As for us, we were still talking about the "July Fourth tragedy" on the last day of summer vacation, when a new mystery rolled into town and an old mystery returned after a summer away...
