FOUR DAYS AGO
"JOSIE," VERONICA WHISPERS in disbelief two days later as she opens her door to her place at the Penbrooke. She's surprised to see Josie since the Scratch girl hasn't contacted her since she snuck out of her room two mornings ago. Josie wanted to text her, but she's been busy taking care of her mother, who decided to cut her trip short and come home. On the way here, she went to Toni's place and made it clear that she just wanted to be friends. Toni was totally cool with it since she's now grown slightly infatuated with Prudence. "Uh- is this a booty call?"
"What?" Josie deadpans, staring at the Lodge girl in disbelief. She knows it must look that way since it's nearly midnight, but that's not why she came. "No. You would know if it was a booty call."
She smirks at the Lodge girl, clicking her tongue to make a point. Veronica pales slightly, knowing from the other night just how much of an affect Josie has on her.
"But that's not why I'm here," Josie informs, straightening her posture to show her point. She then sucks in a deep breathe, hopeful. "I came to ask if you wanna go to homecoming with me. And I know you don't want anything serious right now, but we can just go as friends or-"
"No!" Veronica cuts Josie off, completely throwing her off guard. Josie stares at her in disbelief while Veronica registers what she just said. She didn't mean to say it like that, she just wanted to silence Josie. "I mean, yes, I wanna go with you. But I don't wanna go as your friend. I wanna go as your date."
"Wha- really?" Josie's sad face instantly breaks into a genuine smile. Veronica nods as Josie leans forward and kisses her gently on the cheek, leaving red lipstick as she does so. "We both look gorgeous in black, so we should match."
So now, Josie stands in the middle of the dance watching Veronica sing alongside Archie on the stage. She sees Veronica's eyes on her, and she winks discreetly before going to the bathroom to check her hair and makeup.
But the second she walks in, she immediately regrets it. Cheryl stands at the sink, fixing her cherry red lipstick, hers only being a shade darker than Josie's. She's been avoiding Cheryl since Polly moved in with her, because in all honesty, she doesn't know what to say to her.
But now, she's kind of has to say something. So she walks to the sink, fishes her lipstick out of her handbag, and begins to fix it.
"Josie."
She doesn't bother to turn to look at Cheryl, knowing the redhead has a smug look on her face. "Hey, Cheryl."
"I saw you walk in with Veronica," the redhead informs, clearly not pleased with it. "I didn't know you were okay with sharing your girlfriend."
"Veronica's not my girlfriend," Josie points out, silently hating Cheryl for this. She knows Veronica isn't her girlfriend, yet she's throwing it in her face.
