CHERYL MAKES BETTY audition by herself, so Veronica and Josie end up auditing together. Both girls wave their pompoms enthusiastically, yelling the same cheer that every other girl who's auditioning did.

But unlike when everyone else auditioned, Cheryl narrows her eyes at them in disgust once they're done. "Ladies, where's the heat? Where's the sizzle?"

"Well, you haven't seen our big finish yet," Veronica declares, gently grabbing Josie's arm.

"What big finish-" Josie deadpans, not knowing what the girl's talking about.

"Don't freak out. Just trust me," Veronica replies before leaning forward and kissing Josie, gently cupping the girl's face. Josie is surprised, but quickly eases into the kiss, letting herself enjoy the butterflies that form in her stomach. After a moment, Veronica pulls away and the pair smile at each other. They then turn to Cheryl, who still doesn't seem impressed.

"Check your sell-by date, ladies, faux lesbian kissing hasn't been taboo since 1994. So let's see if you do better with the interview portion of our audition."

Cheryl then turns to Betty, who's standing off to the side of the gym. "Betty, how's your sister doing?"

"Um, Polly's fine, t-thanks for asking," Betty stutters, caught off guard at the mention of her older sister. Polly is also Jason's ex-girlfriend, but Josie hasn't seen the older Cooper girl since last summer.

"Veronica, has Betty told you about her sister yet?"

"Cheryl, do you really have to do this here?" Josie scoffs, crossing her arms in disbelief.

"As a matter of fact, I do," Cheryl nods coldly. "Go ahead, Betty. Tell Veronica about your sister and my dear brother."

"Polly and Jason dated," Betty informs, leaving out the fact that Polly and Jason were in a very toxic relationship towards the end.

"I wouldn't say 'dated'," Cheryl shakes her head. "Lets be honest. Jason's probably the reason your sister had a nervous breakdown and now lives in a group home, isn't it?"

"That's what my parents think," Betty admits somberly.

"What do you have to say about that, Betty?" Cheryl leans forward, keen on making Betty lose it. "Go ahead, the floor is yours. Whatever you've been dying to spew about Jason and how he treated Polly, unleash it. Destroy me. Tear me a new one. Rip me to shreds. Annihilate me."

As Cheryl continues, Josie realizes that Betty is holding her hand in a tight fist, digging her fingernails into her skin. It's something Josie has seen Betty Do whenever she's trying to keep from going off on somebody. Personally, Josie thinks it's unhealthy, but she's always been one to make her emotions known. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry about what happened to Jason. I can't even imagine what you and your family are going through."
